A WEDNESDAY RIDE
with Blue Mountains Ulysses Everyone is welcome to join us for the ride Meet: Blaxland McDonalds, GWH, BLAXLAND, NSW for a 9.00am Start Ride Leader: Franz G (BMBEN) Ride Report/Videos: Franz G 9th June, 2010 Destination: BROOKLYN (on the Hawkesbury) 33°32'52.82"S 151°13'30.68"E Approx. 280km round trip Map Link http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&s...,0.883026&z=10 The weather forecast for the day was 6-16°C with a cold winds. A little cloud cover made it cool but if you found a spot out to the wind it was perfect in the warm sun. Well for me it started weird, first I could not find me tyre valve extender, so I could put it into my tyre repair kit, then I headed around to fill up with fuel. When I went into pay, the attendant accused me of riding through the witches hats near the pump, but I explained that the gap was big enough to get a small car through, That does not matter he runs the service station. Then I had a flat battery, so I had to walk the bike around McDonald carpark until I found someone that could help with a jump start. I thanked the gentleman that did and he was interested in were we were going. I then finally arrived at 8.50am to meet the group where I dropped off the ride instructions sheet, the headed home to pick up my jumper leads. Them back to McDonalds for today’s ride at 9.00am. There were 10 riders started the days ride, myself, Richard M, Tom L, Alan R, Peter M, Noel H, Rod B, David C, Les W and sweeper John McC So off we go. While waiting at the lights to turn right to go west, I herd someone behind me say, I through Brooklyn was the other way. The reason is that we go through Springwood and Hawkesbury Lookout to Angus Banks is that there are no traffic lights or traffic to contend with. Up the Great Western Hwy to Springwood, out passed Hawkesbury Lookout and onto Angus Banks, turned right and went along the Driftway to Windsor, around the bypass onto the Windsor Rd, then Boundary Rd, Cattai Ridge Rd to Arcadia and Bay Rd to morning tea at Berowra Waters. There have made quiet a few changes with new table and chair areas and carpark upgrades. ![]() After morning tea we crossed the ferry and headed up to Berowra then along the Pacific Hwy to have lunch at Brooklyn on the Hawkesbury. We had lunch at the boat ramp at Parsley Bay. ![]() There is some amazing wind worn rock on the right of the photo, well worth a look. While here there was a lady walking around taking photos of the wildlife (no us) and when the group was talking to her they found out that she came from the same town in Wales as one of the group. As we were leaving there was an Electrician making preparations (with help from the locals) to install a satellite dish onto a boat in the bay. ![]() ![]() ![]() After lunch we headed up the Pacific Hwy and through that spaghetti junction at Calga and onto Peats Ridge Rd. John McC left us here to see family up the coast and we turned off at Central Mangrove and headed to Wisemans Ferry for afternoon tea. Its 3.00pm and getting cold, so we said our goodbyes for the day and headed for home. One group of 4 that live east of Penrith went as they use the Old Northern Rd to the Parramatta area. Rod B filled up with fuel and made his own way home and the rest of us went back across the Sackville Ferry to Wilberforce then Kurmond Rd to North Richmond, Angus Banks, Hawkesbury Lookout, Springwood and the Great Western Hwy to Blaxland. A perfect day for a ride, shame about the cool wind. I arrived home at 4.40pm and did 280km for the day. That’s interesting when I look at the Google map I work out that came up with a distance of 280km. Amazing. Regards Franz G
