Default California roads

If you've ever been to Kings Canyon or Sequoia National parks in California you are aware of the Generals Highway that runs between the two parks. It's a great road, but always full of traffic. They've been working on the road for the last 4 years or so leading to long delays and weekday closures save for a short window once during business hours when the road is open. Or something like that anyway.

Don't dispair... there are plenty of good roads just outside of the park. This video is a sample of California 245 between Badger and its northern end at SR 180. Its about 11 miles of curves and little to no traffic. At least on a week day. Enjoy.

Default Ebbitts Pass (SR 4)

Another great road is California Highway 4 over Ebbitts Pass. At the top it's mostly about a lane and a half wide with some sharp turns and steep drop offs. Lots of fun on a GS. There's good camping in the area, too.

Default SR 58 leaving McKittrick

This is a section of California 58 west of the oil town of McKittrick. Alas, I ran out of battery/memory on the camera before I hit the farmlands of California Valley or entered the coastal range on my way to Paso Robles. Next time.

Default Coast Highway

There's a lot of coast in California. California 1 is many different roads depending upon which portion of the state you happen to be in. This video includes portions of SR 1 north of San Francisco (and a few of the roads getting there). When the road turned inland to join US 101 we kept going north on Usal Road, a dirt road. Hey, we're all on some kind of GS.

Default Dry Creek Road

This is the last one for today. It is of Dry Creek road between SR 216 and SR 245 outside of Sequoia/Kings Canyon. This was the road taken to get to the portion of 245 shown in the first video.

When camping in Sequoia Park this road plus 245 and the Generals Highway make a nice loop of about 120 miles. Note: this is the first video I've done available in 1080p. If you have the bandwidth go full screen and click on the HD button.

Default Pescadero Creek Rd

The next video is of portions of the road leaving the town of Pescadero near the coast and heading east. Those who live where winter interferes with riding should ignore the fact that the video was shot on January 15th.

I got ahead of the group on the way to breakfast to take some stills as they passed. It was too dark for video. The sun was just rising.

This video starts where the last one leave off, at the bottom of Alpine Rd where it meets Pescadero Creek. There's just enough traffic here to keep you awake, especially the cars that insist on using more than their lane.
