Kaoko Throttle Control for the R1200GS

Home

A "throttle lock" is a very handy modification for any bike being ridden long distances. There are various designs and vendors, and even some super cheap methods like using a large O-ring (which you roll into the gap between the end of the throttle grip and the bar-end weight), or using a piece of coat-hanger, bent into a "U" shape over the grip and held with a rubber band or two.

The Kaoko throttle lock is shown in the photo above, inside the red circle. Among other benefits, it looks like it could have been OEM equipment. Installation is pretty easy, just remove the Torx bolt from the end of the bar, remove the stock bar-end weight, and replace it with the Kaoko unit. Button it all back together, adjust the Kaoko properly, and there you go...

Now you can 'lock' the throttle in a set position, and give your right hand and wrist a bit of a rest. Be sure you adjust it loosely enough that you can still shut (or open) the throttle against the friction if you need to in an emergency.

I bought mine from Adventurer's Workshop for about $87 (plus shipping). I imagine your local BMW dealer could get you one as well. Highly recommended.
