Wunderlich R1200GS Lifting Handle

Home

The 2004-2005 BMW R1200GS motorcycle models are a bit harder to get on the centerstand than the older R11xxGS models. They had the centerstand about 50% of the distance from the front to the rear axle. The R12GS' centerstand is about 65% of the same distance. Apparently that makes a big difference, and with the 2006 model BMW moved the centerstand forward, more like the older R11xxGS series.

I tried using a small climbing strap, looped around the frame member near the left passenger peg, but that didn't work too well. Then I discovered the Wunderlich "Lifting Handle".

This is a nicely machined handle that bolts securely to the frame tube above the left passenger peg. The finish matches the stock frame finish almost exactly and when mounted it appears almost stock. I put some clear packing tape over the frame tube underneath it prior to mounting.

The handle pivots up to the horizontal position shown above where is provides a solid grip for levering the bike up onto the centerstand. It still isn't as easy as my old R1100GS, but now it is at least do-able.
