Rear driveshaft boot

I have a 2016 GS LC, and have wanted to pull back the rear rubber boot so I can take a look at the condition of the drive shaft and rear U-joint. ( I know a few bikes have shown substantial rust) But try as I might, I can't get the thing to come loose. I've looked at photos of the boot, and it seems to hook into the housing with two (rubber?) tabs at the top, but no amount of pushing or pulling will pop it loose. Of course, I don't want to tear it. Any tips on the best way to pull it back?
