GSA 1250 Battery Cover

So, my battery on my 2019 R1259 GSA went dead. I took out the battery to charge it and I canít get the plastic battery cover back on. It doesnít fit behind the frame rail. Is there any trick to getting this thing back on?

Hi,
Yup - those covers are a pain.
Firstly - ignore the operators manual
1. Slide the battery out a bit (terminals all connected of course)
2. Slip the bottom part of the cover under the battery and push battery into its spot all the way.
3. I then push the LHS of the cover onto the locating pin and and down at the same time push forward towards the battery and then slide the RHS on to the locating pin. It feels like you will snap the damn thing but it does not.

Hope this makes sense. The 1250 is a beautiful machine.
Cheers,
John

battery cover

Another tip I have learned the hard way over the years is to put a small dab of grease on the locating pins of side covers, it really pays off when removing stubborn, fragile plastic covers.

I use a little spit on the tab holes...Haven't broken a pin on any bike since 1978.

Yikes

The bike is my first experience with BMW. My impression is that everything is very precisely designed - a plus. The downside is that knowing how to put the thing back together requires the same precise knowledge. Thanks for your help - Iíll give it another try.
