07 upper crash bars Altrider

Hi my name is Scott, I recently purchased a set of upper crash bars for my 2007 GS 1200. Just found out that they only make uppers for 08 and newer. Bracket that bolts under the fender is too big. Has anyone ever modified this kit to fit a 2007?

thank You!
Scott

Before you start making modifications you might want to re-think the need. The bars are mostly, IMHO, for looks and a place to mount farkles. If you like the look then go for it, otherwise...

The bars were needed for the GSA where the tank was wider and didn't have protective plastic panels to protect the tank if sliding down the road. The regular GS the isn't that fat. My '05 hit the ground many, many times in the dirt and rocks and a few times on the road, once at more than parking lot speeds. The upper plastic was never scratched. I don't think the panels ever hit the ground. There were three points of contact: handle bar, crash bar, and panniers.

I agree...I just dropped my 10 1200 GS backing into a slopped parking space a few months back and the only contact made was the lower crash bar and left pannier.

Upper Crash bars

I see and here I was just making progress on a design for a mounting bracket. I do like the look of them and it would be kind of a hassle to send them back so I think I will go ahead with it. Will also be good for eventually mounting highway pegs and extra driving lights I guess. I greatly appreciate your response, have a great Christmas!

Thank You!
Scott

Merry Christmas... they are an excellent place to mount farkles. Good luck with your modifications.
