I also would recommend the PR4 tires but not if you are looking better than A3's off-road.
+1 on the Trailriders.

Too bad Avon does not make 170/60-17 and 120/70-19 in AV84/5 Trekriders - which have more bite than the Trailriders (60/40 vs 90/10 or so as I see them). I used a set of Trekriders on my Vstrom 650 last year for a Seattle-Anchorage return trip and was very happy with the traction and longevity.

UPDATE: Went with the Mitas E-07+ tires front and rear. First 4-500 miles they are a little squirrely (sp?), after that they grip good on road, can run up and down the passes around here easy, holds corners well. Off-Road, they do great. Been on hard pack dirt, soft dirt, marble rocks, washboard, mud holes, river rock, red clay, whatever I've put them on they have handled easily.

I put the Avons on my '16 the front is the only tire I've tried that develops little if any cupping. The rear wore out too fast for my liking so I replaced the rear with another Anakee.

On my '02 I put the Avon on the front and Tourance on the rear and I like it, I'll probably use this combo on the '16 next time.

2015 GSA
I’ve switched from the Michelin Anakee 3 to the Bridgestone BATTLAX ADVENTURE A41‘s.
This is an excellent road tire, quiet, smooth and great handeling, wet or dry.

I've found that Bridgestones have a tendency to square off more than any other tire.
