Shinko 705 Failure

So was on my way home riding on the highway and the rear started to feel a little weird and bumpy.
Stopped the bike and saw the rear tire had ballooned out in a few spots.
My friend who changed it out today said its a carcass failure and I must write to the company.
Thoughts?

They look old and worn out. If they were older than 5 years they were due. I think I see weather cracks. You should have replaced them when the cracks appeared.

I have seen a half dozen or so pictures on forums of 705s that have delaminated and lost sizable chunks of tread and sidewall rubber. Not a new problem for sure, but it has been a few years since I have seen a report. I am on my fourth set of Shinko Ravens on various bikes and I ran two sets of 705s on my Super Tenere, all without issue. I doubt I will try the 705s again.
I think you should first talk to the dealer that sold you the tires. I would expect them to replace the tires with another brand if you wish, absorb any shipping costs and in recognition of the hassle you have undergone, absorb any additional cost for different, more expensive tires. I would also ensure that Shinko gets the tires for examination. This will likely happen when the dealer asks for compensation from Shinko.
Glad it did not turnout worse for you.

I had an issue with a front TKC 80. Looked like the outer wall has separated from the inner wall after 1500 miles. Revzilla took it back no problem and sent a new one.

I would contact Shinko directly first. I have had this only happen twice with Shinkos over many years and many different models. They sent me a new tire with a return shipping label both times.

Going to war without France is like going hunting without bagpipes, you just leave a lot of noisy useless baggage at home.

I've lost track on how many sets of 705s on my 2014 with nearly 70K miles. I've lost chunks occasionally, but had the same issues with TKC70s.
