Emerging Fork Stanchion issue

Guessing by now most folks have heard something about this. If not, it seems there have been several instances of stanchions separating from the triple clamp/s at speed. I've only read of this happening to LC models.
Has anyone heard of this happening in pre LC models, like 2010s?

I have heard from others that the issue only affects GS Adventure LC. I can't confirm this.
The potential for failure is a huge concern as the outcome is likely to be catastrophic.

Emerging Fork Stanchion issue

I've been following this pretty closely and, to date, I've heard nothing about the older machines experiencing this issue.

There is getting to be alot of people having this problem. I suspect there will be more as awareness arises. There is a Facebook group for this if anybody is interested. https://www.facebook.com/GS1200ForkIssue/ I want to attach the bmw tech bulletin but the file is too large (621 kb) How would I attach this?

I have been reading the threads on AdvRider on the problem. Not sure how many are really having the problems. The trend seems to be those who mainly ride offroad and the main ones having the failure, however, there was one who claimed to have hit a pothole. It also seems that BMW is not warranting the claims, especially if there are handle bar riser involved. Again, I have no experience personally, nor have I seen one, or known someone who had the problem.

With that said, it did concern me enough to order a farkle made by Brian Tome. They are clamps that hold the upper tube to keep this from happening. They were $147.00 a set. [email protected] is his email address. You can also do a search on AdvRider. Brian is Britome on AdvRider.

"Both Inner Fork Tube broken at first day of ride @ 150 mille of use" is one of the threads I was reading.

GS Fork Failure

Yes - I had this problem with my 66 plate 'Triple Black'. Must have hit a massive pothole or some other form of 'brief, high stress shock loading' to my forks. The left, top fork yoke became detached from the top of the fork stanchion and every time I braked, the the front wheel would 'twitch' or 'snatch' to the left. Got in touch with BMW (CW's, Dorchester) and they were brilliant - mentioned the official recall on the DVLA/DVSA website (UK) and they said "no problem". All I had to do was call the BMW emergency recovery line (0800 777 111) and they did the rest - pretty damn quick, too. Now the bikes back, with the beefy fork 'mod' carried out, new fork stanchions, and at absolutely NO COST to me - winner!

I hope this helps others in the same predicament!

Regards & happy biking, Martin
