I'm pretty sure I'm hearing the same noise on my '19 1250 GSA but I've not seen anything to compare it to.

I'll note that from what I can hear, the noise only seems to occur while the bike is in geared motion; revving the engine with the clutch pulled in (or the bike out of gear) doesn't generate the noise. It's basically all I can hear on my commute to work - most of my ride is city start/stop at up to 30mph which is right in the 2-3,000 rpm range where others have reported the noise occurring.

I did report it to the dealer at the 600 mile service but they said all noises were normal. I'm pretty sure it's more consistently there now though (~1600 miles) so I'm considering going back to them, not that it sounds like theres much they will do anyway.
I can't post link but you can find in youtube:

Yep, that's exactly the noise I hear.

Yes me too, around 21:14 thats the noise I could hear very prominently. It must be just as bad on that bike to be able to hear it above the wind noise and commentary.

Its strange that the tester doesnt seem to notice it at all, are we really just that fussy? It totally got on my nerves.

It got on my nerves too... I think it is a matter of degree and volume : on my 2019 blue GS the noise was inescapable : with or without earplugs, vizor open, vizor shut... it permeated everything...

Now, with the black Exclusive 2020 GS I bought after a test ride, the noise is STILL there, but at a much lower noise level : when the vizor of my helmet is shut, for instance, it is gone...

My dealer confirms by the way that his previous 2019 white, red and blue demo, which I found very silent , is louder than the Exclusive I recently purchased...

So I sincerely hope that this low noise level will allow me to forget about it while riding my new GS... I know now for a fact they ALL make this noise , which probably will make it easier to ignore it...

Just a thought....my bike just went for the 6k service. My oil was at around the half mark in the glass if not a bit below when I took it in. Can't say I noticed any issues but the tech filled the oil to just short of the top (red circle) of the sight glass. Everything about the bike now is smoother including the shifting. It sounds better as well. Like I said, didn't think it was bad previously but after 6k I noticed the difference immediately.

That's why I change my oil every 5k.

On the other hand, for the R1200GS LC it is recommended to fill up the carter only to HALFWAY the inspection glass in order to improve gear shifting... it is hard to please a BMW ...

238 posts, over 20,000 views but no definitive consensus as to the cause of this strange engine noise on the R1250.

This annoying noise is still present on my GS at 10,000 miles but fortunately has not got any worse.

I have posted the a/m link on the GS-forum I frequently visit and where several 1250-owners reside: NOBODY hears anything out of the ordinary... which convinces me even more that the majority of GS-riders are not very discriminating as to the noises their bike produces...

I wish my hearing weren’t that finely tuned...

I have 9000 miles on my 2019 R1250 GSA. The only thing I hear and see at the 21:00 mark in this video is a normal 3rd to 4th gear shift (according to the TFT).

Current Stable:
1914 Flying Merkel
1946 Indian Chief
2003 Harley Davidson Dyna Glide
2019 R1250 GSA
