I've battled with Basecamp and searched the WWW looking for a way to create route that I can import into my GPS that worked and I think I finally found a decent, but not simple process that works!

First watch this
. Then create your map in Google maps and export as KML file to your PC. Then use this website to convert the KML to GPX and save to PC. Open the GPX in Basecamp and double click the route to change color and confirm it's what you want by running the route in Basecamp. FYI drag and drop the rout you want in Google maps if Google doesn't go the route between point you like!

That video is very informative! I did find it more complex than doing routing in BaseCamp. I know many have been frustrated by it but, once you have the "ah-ha" moment, it's a powerful program. I found the New England Riders BaseCamp video to be most helpful.

You can also make routes in google maps and there are many websites where you can copy and paste the URL from google maps and it will create the GPX for you to download. very simple way to do it.

I tried Basecamp but continued to lose my mind on it.
I switched to Rever where you can create a route and then download it as a GPX file easily.

Basecamp is garbage. I have never encountered such an ill-designed, unfriendly piece of software in my life. Just horrible.
