R1200GS speedo issue

Hi Guys - Help please my 2012 R1200GS triple black has a speedo problem, it takes about 8 kms to get it to start working, then it just comes on random, if I stop for a break it stops again then starts further down the road. My question these machines have two speed sensors in the wheels, can you test them? how do I know which one is faulty? my ABS light is staying on as well, red solid light not flashing. what do I do? any suggestions appreciated thanks Rod

I don't think the sensors are expensive. I would replace them both and be done with it....

Garage
check the wire

from the rear sensor. Check that it has not come adrift from the clips holding it in place. Mine did, and it rubbed against the rear disc, and consequently wore through the insulating coating, exposing the wire. Resulting symptoms were as you describe.
Ive successfully re-shielded the wire using heat-shrink. Problem gone.
My bike is a 2010 so should be a similar setup.
hope this helps
Greg

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy
