Bmw moa

Who belongs to the MOA? Do you get any benefit from it? I've belonged to GWRRA, HOG and a couple other associations and really never utilized them. I have a riding club I belong to which satisfies that need so I don't know I'd ever use that feature.

Do you belong? Why or why not?

I belonged to them several years ago and loved the magazine.

I do. The organization is largely invisible to me, but the rallies, tech info and help on the forum are all about the members. The magazine is pretty decent though the topics vary widely and not all interest me. Benefits improve every year but are not widely disseminated so I have to remind myself to review the benefits page now and then to see what's new.

The MOA is very different than the HOG. BMW riders tend to travel solo or in twos or threes, not the huge groups the cruiser crowds are known for. No road captains or sweepers, but if you need help on the road the Anonymous Book will find you a new best friend.

I belong to the MOA.
I use the website to buy and sell, enjoy the magazine, and have used the discounts several times.
Rallies and such are very well done also.

Tire plan useful

I subscribe to their tire plan, and it came in handy in April near Nogales on my R1200GS. I was riding on the Interstate, got a puncture, tire went flat immediately at 80 mph at dusk. I called the plan and they arranged a tow at plan expense to BMW dealer in Tucson about an hour away who installed a new Heidenou K60 (the next day.) Cost: price of the (membership+tire plan) which is around $110/year. Probably would have cost me around $500 without the plan.

I like the monthly magazine from BMWOA, but have not had good luck with their roadside insurance and use CA AAA instead. For a BMW website I go to BMW Sport Touring and find it excellent both for information and for the various rides they sponsor. It's a very active site with lots of posts.

I have used the discounts offered to MOA members and save far more than the membership price. The roadside assistance program is, alone, worth the price of membership.

Like any other membership, you'll get out of it what you want and YMMV.

Yes, I believe it is a very good place to join. Recently I got better hotel pricing on two separate trips than I could get as an airline discount. Geico covers my roadside assistance so I haven't purchased the one from MOA. Try it for a year and if you don't enjoy it you can always drop it.

Echo some comments

I echo the comments like having to remind myself to look for what discounts there are and the magazine is well made. Always carry my anonymous book with me.

Just used the transport company that the MOA recommends (Motorcycle Shippers), got a $50 discount from the internet quote.

I've been a member for 6 years and have their roadside assistance, but have never used it. I have used their classified ads to sell a bike (free to members) and I enjoy their monthly magazine (especially Jack Riepe's stories).
