2019 Final Drive Oil

The final drive of the 2019 R1250 GS calls for SAE 70w-80 gear oil.

I have 75w-90 in the garage because it's for the K16. Can I use that in the GS as well?

Plus the 70w-80 is hard to find on Amazon. I'm spoiled. I want to click and have a brown box magically appear on the doorstep.

Ya, ya, ya, another oil thread. I searched and came up with a ton of R1200 threads. I need to be sure, especially with the final drive issues going around. Thanks.

You are free to use any oil you like but If you are worried about final drive issues why not get what is specified. Its not that hard to find. I googled 70W-80 and lots of choices came up. Both Amazon and Walmart have 70W-80 available for delivery. It is also a gear oil weight used in Mopars so the local Chrysler/Dodge dealer probably has a case or three of it on the shelf. Or just saunter down to the local BMW dealers and buy a liter from them.

I would use the same 75w-90 that the K1600 uses if the consensus is that it's fine to use. That one is literally on every store shelf.

I used this as an excuse to stop by my dealer this afternoon and gawk at all the pretty toys there. They want 80 bucks for a quart of the stuff. Must be gold flaked.
While not officially in spec, 75w90 shouldn’t be a problem vs 70w80. Biggest factor is temperature, if in a cool/cold climate it maybe would make a difference.

If I recall right some on here have even used 75w140, which again may not damage things but is a step further thicker than spec.

I know of driveshaft issues, primary shaft issues but no final drive issue. What issues are you thinking of?
I would use the 75w90. as long as it's gl5 rated.
