Best Auxiliary Lights

I want to add auxiliary lights to my 2020 GS1250. I rarely ride at night, I want to add the lights to be more visible to oncoming traffic. Any recommendations? My local shop recommended Clearwater. He recommended NOT BMW branded.

Clearwater are probably the best, and at a premium price. Can’t go wrong.
I have used both Baja Designs and Rigid with success. Quality, but at a slightly lower price point.

Ive used clearwater and Baja....not cheap but between the two I liked Baja because of the slight yellow hue. The pure white of CW was annoying. That being said if you dont ride at night any cheaper brand would be ok unless money is no issue.

Yellow ones that fit your budget are best.

Agree that yellow/amber is the way to go. I got a deal on some Clearwaters a couple years ago on ADV Rider and really like them. I've seen other brands and still think Clearwaters are the best for the large amount of money they cost. Great tech support too.

7-8 years ago I also wanted aux light on my bike (not GS at that time) so I purchased cheap chinese LED pair just to see how they fit the bike. Was planing to purchase serious pair of lights after the installation goes well and after seeing if i liked them or not.
Well, that cheap chinese LED lighhts are still in use. Moved tham to my GS which is the third bike to move them to. They just work perfectly so I have never replaced them.
However, you can purchase the pair you like but one very important thing is how you are going to connect them.
In my case I went with EzCan that reads bike's light sensor and keeps my aux lights at 100% brightness during a day and 30-40% during a night. That way I'm very visible during a day and not blinding anyone during a night.

You'll have to define what best means to you? Is "best" brightest, biggest, smallest, cheapest, most expensive, interrogatable, stand alone, single color, dual color???

FWIW Clearwater lights are nice but they are something I personally would not lay the money out for. I have had VG success with LED'd pos of various styles and sizes from Amazon never spending over $50 a pair.

I can tell youif you would like a bright daytime light these little dual color mini LED's work a treat. I have installed them for several buddies and when riding in a group if there are several bikes behind me with both these mini LED's set on yelo and others with white lights the yellow dwarfs them and is easily picked out. The white lights blend in with the headlights.

These lights are tiny but do not let that fool you. Also if you look around you can find them for around $20, or at least could a month or so ago.

Triangle with yellow aux lights for maximum visibility. These are a mid-priced Chinese brand called GR or GoldRunway which has held up flawlessly for me since 2019. The machining of all parts including the otherwise often chintzy crash bar clamps is excellent, as is the waterproof relay harness with waterproof connectors. These have survived countless tip-overs, too.
For a 1250, the Clearwaters and other competitors might integrate better with the bike’s electronics and controls, I don’t know. For my old hexhead, having the included separate controls for on/off and brightness is fine with me.
I just wanted to give a nod to a Chinese company that obviously is going above and beyond the typical expectations to produce a quality product.

I have the Clearwater Darlas mounted to my crash bars and they work very well in the daylight with the added amber lenses. People now notice me and it's a remarkable difference. It's a very nice kit that comes with everything you need to install and clear color instructions. I was very impressed with the quality. I don't normally ride at night but once I got caught out in Death Valley and was very impressed. Darla (R1250GSW "water-cooled")
I also bought the Billie light for the back because the stock tail light is pretty much useless. Following other bikes in the rain, one with and one without quickly convinced me to get one. Search: 2 results found for "billie light"
I think Clearwater has a sale for Memorial day. Might want to call and ask.
I put on a set of yellow Diode Dynamics SS3 sport about 3 months ago. No complaints and no issues. People who have Clearwater always say they're the best, but there are SEVERAL other quality brands on the market too. Baja Designs, Rigid, Diode Dynamics, Morimoto, KC
I've got Clearwaters on my RT and Denali on my GSA. I much prefer the Denali's with the HexEZ Can (or Denali equiv).
Don’t forget to augment your brake lights, too.

I’ll add to the above that Denali may be considered in the same quality/price/integration category as the Clearwaters. I have their system: CANSmart Gen 2 controller, D4s (with yellow lenses), S4s, SoundBomb horn and single B6 brake light. All plug and play, but you’ll need to pull off a bunch of the plastic to run the cables; better than cutting/splicing, to me.

I am a fan of Cyclops. The HQ is local (to me, Kent, Washington) and I have met the owner and visited their shop. Family owned, U.S. based and they stand behind their products. The lights I got from them are solid, and will be buying more. www.cyclopsadventuresports.com.

I installed the Clearwater Dixie with slip on amber covers on the front of my 2016 R1200GS and the Billie on the rear. The system comes with the Clearwater CANopener which does not require any splicing and operates seamlessly when switching between low beams and high beams due to oncoming traffic. I have mine set at reduced power levels oF 30% in low beam mode and 70% in high beam mode. Both the Dixie and the Billie are fully abrightness adjustable via the CANopener. I often ride desolate roads in Northern California at night and love them, I would not be without them. In traffic they are not blinding to other motorists but make a huge difference in being seen. My son has a 2016 S1000XR that I ride on occasion, and I find that I am not nearly as well seen on his bike with stock lighting. Clearwater’s are American made and carry a lifetime warranty. They are expensive but work seamlessly, offer excellent support, and offer a lifetime warranty. The Dixie’s are my Prius melters. They are incredible.

If you go to the ClearWater site and order a set of light covers - to essentially protect your investment from rocks and such - you will find out that one prices provides slip on covers with either YELLOW or CLEAR inserts. If you change your mind, or conditions warrant, you can switch out the yellow/clear inserts.

Enjoy
I opted for the Denali D4’s & CANsmart system. It integrates with the whiz wheel and works really well. I ordered it from “a bike thing” after watching his YouTube videos. He modified the mount from a GSA to fit the GS which places the lights a little lower. I also added the yellow lenses.

For your consideration:
I have been in the same place but have not felt like spending hundreds if I could get a good-enough result for far less (< $60 in my case),
And ended up with the following, which I am happy with:

Light pods:

wiring harness

Also, while on the topic of lights, I have upgraded my headlight bulbs from halogen to the following LED and very happy with them:

and in this post I have listed some testing-related details (power consumption + light output of LED vs stock halogen) and the reason for choosing these bulbs

Lastly, keep in mind there is a lot of cheating going on when it comes to the claimed output of light pods - I have posted some details in this post after running some tests during my research/search on/for pod lights.

I recommend the Denali D3 yellow fog lights, street-legal fog beam (SAE/DOT & ECE certified. Pair with a ezcan and it’s plug and play.

I’d also recommend on a second ezcan and do the Denali T3’s for the rear as well.

I did both as well as the d3 spots and the emblem puck lights
