Watched the JVB video and read a little about the brake fluid change for the servo system in the older RTs. I am curious as to why the brake calliper is removed for the fluid change. I have bled many brake lines over the years and have never removed a calliper - not a problem to do it - just wondering why.

My understanding is that the calipers are removed and shims are inserted to push the caliper pucks all of the way in. This way, any old brake fluid that might be remaining in the nooks and crannies of the caliper will be flushed out. I don't think that it is a "need to do'" but more of a "nice to do" for a full, complete flush.

Good Luck

I've yet to push them all the way in either...may do it if replacing pads. Good news is pulling the calipers is pretty easy to do...just did it to change front tire today.
