1st off let me start off by saying I do not like top cases. I have bought several bike that top cases came with (different materials and brands) and disliked them all. THey are typically one of the 1st things I sell off.

This year I have a couple upcoming trips and have found I need a bit more space as I have to take some additional things with me that were never needed before. So not wanting to spend a ton of money on a name brand top case because after all fundamentally they are all boxes (metal and/or plastic) with hinges and lids. ITs one of the reasons I bought Tusk panniers. Those $250 aluminium boxes hold stuff just as well as the $2000 OEM panniers on my GSA.

Out of top cases I found I really disliked the plastic one's like Givi Monokey (took one to Labrador) as they just look like bulbous art deco globs of plastic and out place on a motorcycle. So that limited me to aluminum and since I was not going with a big name limited my choices even further. On a whim I typed in motorcycle top case into Amazon search bar and there were several choices. I think they are all made in the same sweat shop just branded differently. Although I would have preferred a natural finish the black finish cases were $20 less and since it's not a necessary evil and not a wanting to spend extra money, I chose the cheaper black option. I order it last Thursday and it arrived on Friday. Pulled it out of the box (very well packed) and turn out the case i pretty stout. I was thinking it might have been made out of old flattened out beer cans but pleasantly surprised at the metal thickness. Corners have tie-downs (that I'll never use) and they seem adequate for holding down stuff like your camp chair. The top case also came with a nice mounting adapter, back pad, padded/pocketed liner, and all the needed mounting hardware. Latches are easy to work and easy to remove/install on the bike in seconds. It took about 30 minutes to get everything lined up and tightened and in the end this case is really nice especially for the $199 price tag. I did see today that there is another brand on sale for $189. Sure goes make it hard to justify spending $900 the name brands want.

If you are looking for a top case that punched above its price point these 45L cases off Amazon are right up your alley.

That's actually a pretty sharp-looking case, I prefer the black ones for the look as it's more stylish, yet the alum ones tend to bring more attention in traffic when you need to be seen. I agree with you on the gargantuan-looking heaps of plastic they are making now, plus they put tons of ugly as-heck stickers/graphics all over them to "represent" their brand. I like simple/plain/functioning over flashy.

I only dislike tail boxes as I can't swing my leg over, and end up Muay Thai kicking the side of the box when I don't feel like stepping on the foot peg to fling my leg over. I would like to get some side panniers that are half as wide as the typical ones for city running just for the basic things like rain suit and battery jumper etc., so I don't have to run my tail box. I liked the small compact one you made from what looked like a pelican box some time ago.

I don't remember seeing you mention it, but what does the weight difference come to between this one and the usual alum one? I wonder if the 70's padding inside this one adds to it any. Thanks for sharing and giving us more options.

Shipping weight was 17.2lbs so comparable to all the others.
The one I bought off of the jungle site is no longer in stock but was shocked at the quality for the price ($209). Really well built. Looks to be same design as yours.

Mine too is a Myamis brand top case and cost $199.

Here is an eerily similar Iproods brand case for $189.

Heck I ended up buying the Iproods version @ $189 for the other GS.

This is Krons fault he bought a set of shocks from me and I had money burnin' a hole in my pocket.

I'm curious, have any of you water tested them? That second picture shows the gasket rolling out of place. I wonder if the rivet holes are sealed in an way. Pop rivets are definiely not waterproof.

I like the interior 70's look. Just needs some Corinthian leather accents...

I'm considering just hard mounting a Pelican case on another users suggestion.
Mine has yet to be in the rain but closes with a solid sealing sounding thud and the seal looks like it would do the job on mine.
