My 08 GS started making a weird sort of rattling noise at idle which didn't make before (I have 28K miles on it).
What's weird is that I noticed the noise stops if I pull the clutch.
I am not sure how critical this is or it will get in the short future but I am expecting to spend some $$$$ soon to get it fixed..
Anyone with an idea of what that could be??

I would focus on the slave cylinder. Lots of forum threads on this
issue. The seals start to go and interfere with clutch clearances.
It takes some digging to u/s the problem...usually water in the
system at slave cylinder/clutch pressure line interface (which is the
low point). Note: BMW has changed design of slave cylinder
at least once. The degradation of the rubber seals is what causes
the famous "white goo"

In theory if things go downhill the slave cylinder can leak into the
clutch...not good for a dry clutch.

Often a change in throw or feel of the clutch lever (on handle bars) give
an owner a heads up.
