Good afternoon from the (not so sunny) UK

Afternoon folks,

Confession, never joined up to a GS forum before but had my 1250 for almost 3yrs now. Reason? I guess the only one I can come up with is that I’m a garage tinkerer, love stripping cars and bikes down, modifying, servicing, etc, and so the forums I’m drawn to are those pertaining to the bikes I’m meddling with…90’s and early 00’s Ducatis. The GS, for me, is the bike that doesnt really get tinkered with, no reason to, perfect out of the box (IMO). However, some life-events this last few months mean that I’m on a mission to really now use the GS, do some meaningful trips on it and create memories. (Don’t misunderstand though, the GS has been used a decent amount in the 3yrs I’ve owned it!)

To that end, I’m removing the Nav6 - its a constant annoyance for me, working in the tech industry but having to tolerate a Windows95-a-like experience every time I want to plan a decent adventure. In comes a new Zumo XT (yesterday), just in the process of installing it, get better at using Base Camp, and then off I go.

So, looking forward to hanging around these parts and meeting folk, and hopefully contributing something useful.

Cheers
Spencer

Welcome.

Have you looked at the E-NavXT adapter for the Zumo XT? Won't have wunderwheel and my motorcycle functionality but you you have all that on the TFT anyway.

Hi JR, thanks for the welcome.

No, I’m finding my way around the various Zumo mounts; I ordered a 3D printed one from Etsy yesterday, just a basic mount with a rudimentary shield/keyslot over the nav release button, so very basic security but it would stop an opportunist from swiping it.

The other one that really appeals is Scarabs mount on this thread > New Zumo XT mount

To me, it looks perfect. Uses my original key barrel, great printing quality, looks OE, slimmer than the ones that piggyback onto the BMW Sat Prep bracket…but it is pricey and works out exactly half of what the nav unit itself cost me.

I’m trying to reply back on that thread, but at the moment I dont have sufficient privileges to reply.

Will look up the E–NavXT right now, thanks for the recommendation.

Ok, just found the E-NavXT, and yep I had seen it before called the 3DAM mount, one of the piggyback devices. Certainly a good option for way less than half the price of the Scarab/Karavtech mount.
I also have the Zumo XT mounted using the 3DAM mount and it's a nice kit but I still find myself using the BMW app and the TFT display. Anyway you chose the right bike to do some adventure riding on and the guys on this forum are top notch.
