I may have given the wrong impression. I did not adjust each 6,000 miles, I measured once reaching 36,000 miles. A mechanic for a fleet of GS/GSA's told me taht he rarely finds the need to make an adjustment before 36k. The dealer's love the check every 12 though. Big $$$.Who did your service? Looks strange to me that you have to change shims every 6000 miles. I do long rides too, mostly 300 miles a day for longer trips.
I had other bikes with shims, like K100, K1600, almost never had to replace shims. My dealer's head tech tells me they have to adjust the shims very seldom, only a few bikes and mostly during the first 12,000 miles maintenance .
My XR does not even require a check until 18k and with all the work to access, I will definitely wait until then!
