Just picked up a 2009 1200GS a few weeks ago. New to dual sporting but spent years in Colorado riding a WR in the mountains so a little experience with offroad.

Welcome. GS weight can be intimidating but a great bike for gravel roads and hardpack. You'll want the WR for the single track. :)

I was surprised to find how balanced this larger bike is with the added weight. It's carried so low in the frame that you almost do not notice it; but then I have only been on the street with it and not offroad yet.

I would pickup another WR in a heartbeat if I had a place down here to ride that wasn't just sand washes.
