Larger top case for factory adventure setup?

Does anyone make a wider topcase that can use the factory key and mount to the OEM adventure
hard case mount? Or perhaps a blank adapter plate for the factory mount?

Bumot has a large top case but it can't use the factory key

Givi also has a large top case

As far as I can see, neither of those will interface with the factory mount. Both require replacement of the top mount, which means I cannot swap between the OEM topcase and the larger one without also changing the mount, which is what I was hoping to avoid.

Nope. Most folk use the Kappa Givi Trekker Outback/ K-Aventure (or whatever they're calling it today) 58 litre one. It's massive. Just be aware that using it will alter your bike's handling a bit and a lot if you overload it. It mounts too far aft IMO. I hate the fucking thing and rarely use it, so much so I mounted a small Pelican case on the mounting plate. It came with the bike when I purchased it. Use it as an ottoman now.
I figured as much. I already have a wider Givi on my KLR that suits my need so I'll just deal with the extra key and get the Monokey to replace the topcase mount. Given that I rarely remove the case, I might just do that same as you and permanently mount a Pelican case of the desired size.

I’m looking at the Pelican (and SKB) cases from Caribou. Will require either an SW Motech or Givi Monokey ‘adapter’ plate (or Hepco?), either of which will be almost as much as the case. But, my use will be for my camera kit, and I’m not keen on undertaking a DIY adaptation.
I mounted the Pelican case to the Monoplate using its existing holes. The Pelican had the bottom "rails" shaved off so it lies flat - it may flex slightly when tighten down if they aren't removed which cause the body to not line up exactly with the lid. You can still snap it shut but you'll need to line up the sealing lip before closing the lid

I know you are not found of DIY solutions, but have a look at my photo gear setup
Your comment just made me go look at the OEM topcase. The mounting rails on the underside are bolted to the flat bottom of the case. So if I can souce a cheap topcase, I can attach it's rails to a Pelican box. Then all I need is to fabricate an adapter to attach the locking latch.

I was just thinking the same after 20-100 showed us the pannier version.

(I just posted this on the earlier post, forgetting I was no longer here… honey, where are my pills???)

Nice work and very resourceful. I’m actually down with DIY, just overwhelmed on several fronts currently so looking for the happy path in terms of time, at least. (And, I can be a bit lazy… just installed my Denali system after sitting on the kit for a year!). Anyway, I may look around for a case first to fit my photo kit needs (I’ve been known to travel with two bodies and several lenses), before looking at a solution. Maybe it’s the case (pun?) that Caribou’s offerings don’t necessarily match my needs. Thanks for the reality check!
20-100, how do you lock the pelican case into the rack on your setup?

If that 58L case is using the Givi to BMW factory mount, you can move it to sit over the passenger seat instead. If you look at the picture below, you can see the adapter plate the BMW cases use that bolt onto the main rack connected to the motorcycle frame. If you look at the main rack, just under the passenger seat, you will see there are two sets of vertical holes. These can be used to mount the adapter plate after removing the rear seat. The BMW Givi adapter plate should mount here as well, moving the case over the passenger area.

BMW owner manual shows this under the heading "Converting Topcase Bracket" in the Accessories->Topcase section.

The aluminum cylinder is bolted (there is a self locking nut) from inside the case after installation. It pushes against the inside of the rack and hold the case in place.

Let me know if it is not clear, I'll get more pictures with the case on the bike.

Got it. Perfectly clear and a nice simple solution.
If you put a wider top case and have top load panniers you'll have clearance issues. If you have side loader panniers not an issue and you stuff will still fall on th eground as usual.

The simple, cheap and effective solution is take less stuff.
My reason for wanting a wider top case is that the OEM box is not wide enough to fit a workstation class laptop, even with no case on it. Adding both panniers just to carry one item, especially for a longer highway commute and then having it bounce around for 4 miles down a dirt road is not too enticing to me when a slightly wider top case would solve the problem.

I have the Bumot top case on my GSA with the OEM rack. It works just fine.
