Nav VI

My 6th BMW Nav VI is in the mail to me! Yep, you read that right, I have sent 5 VI's back. The BMW Nav VI came with a new 2022 GSA. Garmin does provide a direct phone number for BMW owners that purchased the Nav with the bike. Having the number makes exchanging the GPS as painless as possible.

Although I'm disappointed with the Nav VI (I had no problems with the V), I'm not with the customer service of Garmin. I call, they email a UPS mailing label. As soo as they received my GPS they have a new one in the mail to me. The total turn around is less then a week. They will also put a GPS in the mail immediately if you're willing to pay about $350 +or-. They will refund the $350 once they receive your GPS. I have never been in that much of a hurry so I have not used that option.

So far with 12,000 miles on the bike in 7 months mine is working ok
Makes me even happier that I bought a Zumo XT instead. Way less expensive and much more advanced features.

Spousal Unit and I have three NAV VIs. Works well; one on each bike and one in the mail to and fro to Garmin.

Same here. Mine is currently being exchanged with Garmin. My second or third unit. Mine was slightly out of warranty, but they are fixing it again anyway. This week I rode from Portland, Oregon to Houston without it and I sure missed it. It actually cost me an extra day of travelling because I got "lost" a couple times (meaning that I ended up missing turns, taking less than desired routes.) When it works, it is great, indispensable.

First 'cold' day here in NE FL, hit 43F on the way in to work this morning and guess what? If you guessed GHOST TOUCH showed up, you got it correct! Stopped by the dealer on the way home and as soon as the service manager saw the NAV VI in my hand he went to the back and got a warrantee spare. This is My SEVENTH in 4 years.

MAD Props to the Jacksonville BMW shop, they have supported me without fail. Great team and better service.

I'm on my second unit, first replaced slightly outside the warranty, but came with a warning from the BMW Dealer in Tokyo that Garmin will not replace it a third time. Hmmm. 😡
6 in less than 5 years. One more month of warranty.

I just received #4, after only having #3 less than 3 months. Agreed, Garmin has the return process down to a science, which in a way is a bit ominous. The technical rep mentioned something about BMW and Garmin having a recent powwow on the subject, and to expect some sort of outcome in early 2023, whatever that means, be it new firmware, a new device altogether, etc. Bottom line, my personal experience with the Nav VI(s), and previously a Zumo 590, I have little faith in Garmin motorcycle products.
Well I made it through the first say of sub-freezing temps, 41 when I left for work the other morning (it's Florida, anything under 50 is considered freezing by the locals) and the Nav VI survived. Hope this is a good sign.

For this issue, I think Garmin has extended the free service indefinitely, or until they get a permanent fix in place. They know they are on the wrong side of a Class Action if they stop support for a known defect. Often times, it's not the direct cost of a Class Action that costs the most, but the legal battle and bad publicity.

And mines gone tits up AGAIN as of today....right before a long ride.....yipeeeeeee
My Second Repaired Unit has just gone "Ghosting" today, spoke to the Garmin rep and they promptly are sending me another but they are on back order till the end of this month.
The Rep did say they are getting a "Revised" edition in the 2nd Half of this year. Supposedly they will be updating the existing unit to the "Revised" Edition.
So far the support team seems very helpful and understanding, at least they are trying and not saying its all on you.

GAIA GPS on the phone works very well.
I have been waiting to purchase a Nav 6 until the end of the 1st quarter 2023 because of the rumored update or fix. Does anyone know if this is true or not?
So the replacement I sent out in January is still not been shipped. Called Garmin today and there is a wait till middle of march till something comes in. The shipment they were supposed to receive has been delayed.
Also I asked the Rep if the ghosting problem has been fixed...he said not completey and they are working on a fix which should be in end of this year.

Zumo XT it will be for me than
This was Garmin's response to my question.

Hello David,

We were told the revised head unit will available the second half of this year depending on testing resolve. There isn't a specific date and you could check monthly to verify if a revised head unit is available.

Thank you for choosing Garmin,

Mine just failed. The dealer has two NAV 6 units but they would be the old ones. I can wait until the new ones show up
