Nav VI

My 6th BMW Nav VI is in the mail to me! Yep, you read that right, I have sent 5 VI's back. The BMW Nav VI came with a new 2022 GSA. Garmin does provide a direct phone number for BMW owners that purchased the Nav with the bike. Having the number makes exchanging the GPS as painless as possible.

Although I'm disappointed with the Nav VI (I had no problems with the V), I'm not with the customer service of Garmin. I call, they email a UPS mailing label. As soo as they received my GPS they have a new one in the mail to me. The total turn around is less then a week. They will also put a GPS in the mail immediately if you're willing to pay about $350 +or-. They will refund the $350 once they receive your GPS. I have never been in that much of a hurry so I have not used that option.

I'm going to guess the updated model will arrive when the 1300GS does in the fall
So the replacement I sent out in January is still not been shipped. Called Garmin today and there is a wait till middle of march till something comes in. The shipment they were supposed to receive has been delayed.
Also I asked the Rep if the ghosting problem has been fixed...he said not completey and they are working on a fix which should be in end of this year.
I sent one back in December. They told me the refurbished units were back ordered. I got an email about a week ago that said they were going to send a new replacement since they had no timeline on the back order. It just arrived today. Brand new unit in the retail packaging.

Perhaps you’ll see the same.
Got mine yesterday also. Lets hope it works for sometime now

It would be interesting to see if there's any correlation in high failure rate applications. I've used mine from 100+F for days crossing deserts to below freezing for days on my way through the YT to Alaska and through biblical weather with everything falling from the sky but frogs so I don't see any correlation. I had mine start ghosting before the pandemic and was replaced quickly and I haven't had another problem with it.

I really prize the wonder wheel control for zoom on it but other than that, I think using my iPhone 14 Plus Pro with the MapOut app has become my favorite for following tracks on ADV rides. I get tons of detail including all me POIs overlaid with great map detail I don't see on the Nav VI. These days I almost always have two guidance screens open when I'm traveling: my Nav VI and the iPhone.
I two always have two Navigation systems going at the same time. Besides the Nav VI I have a Garmin Montana going. The Montana is set to Topo maps giving me excellent detail of the area and has all my waypoints. I have tried an iPhone but don't like it as well at the Montana.

I use Nav 6 for purely bike info and the duraforce pro2 as the navigation running Google maps.
The nav 6 for maps is useless in India as the maps are prehistoric when the dinosaurs lived in India.

When I send in my NAV 6 will I just get a refurbished NAV 6 with no changes and a great chance of another failure? It an updated one coming out?
I get a new Nav 6 with the same screen problems.
Garmin told me they will have a new designed unit by fall. At that time I can call and get one sent out.
I'm going to do that same. My 7th Nav VI has a few problems on my last ride.
New NAV came today. let's see how long this one last.

Me too. I am on my 6th Nav VI in 4 years. Two bikes, Garmin does replace the devices as needed. But I carry a hand held GPS as a backup (in addition to my phone). In February I was told by the Garmin Customer Support person that my name has been added to the list of people who will be contacted once the "updated" unit is available. They said the redesigned unit is supposed to be available late 2023.

The last Nav6 was treated very gently and lasted ~6months. I stored the unit off the bike in my house. I have noticed the unit tend to fail after getting cold (I live in CA, cold means 40deg to me).

My 6th (or is it 7th?) NAV6 failed. It was either setting waypoints or moving the screen. I have a Montana mounted on my 1250 because I have had so many problems with the NAV6.

I just got off the phone with Garmin. They are always very professional and the support is first rate. They said I could send it back and they'll send out a new one and in June I would be notified that the new model is out and I could trade up at that time. Instead of the hassle of sending in 2 GPS over 2 maybe 3 month I decided to keep my existing NAV6 and when notified make the switch. I live in KC and drive Garmin headquarters about once a week. I hope I can make the exchange at their service desk.

This is good news. The new model will be out in June? I knew it was coming but didn't think it would be out that fast. I'm assuming this new Nav will be featured on the 2024 GS

As noted on another GPS thread, I can't wait to see what the new GS will have for navigation. If it doesn't use a NAV6 we might be screwed.

I was just at my BMW dealer, a large volume dealer and they said the BMW rep has no idea when or even if a new model will come in the future.
Garmin told me a new version will be out soon.
It's June does anyone have information on a new Nav 6?
