Based on your age, riding history (especially based on your ‘favorite’) and annual miles... I would look at the F800GS instead of the R. Its lighter, essentially equal torque and not much less HP, and far easier to handle as you age. If you are an 'all highway' rider, the 1200 is better... but the 800 very good, and much more flexible.
I did the same thing... gradually dropping down in size and weight. I’m now solely on a Sertao.
