Pannier Handles/Straps....an unnecessary farkle?

First off, saying “unnecessary” and “farkle” is redundant, I know.

Secondly, I came from the KLR world so I am addicted to unnecessary farkles, mods and accessories.

Lastly, these cool pannier straps/handles are not really needed...but they sure look cool. Kind of. From certain angles. And they were only three for $27 delivered off eBay.

I bought them from China—and they arrived super quickly—but I know Tusk and others have them for a bit more. The quality appears fine.

Will I keep them on the side bags and top case? Likely not. But they sure look cool now... 😎

Here is my tip. Don’t cut off the excess like I did! You can use the excess length of the straps to strap other things under the straps like a sleeping bag or towels. I could have saved some room in my panniers!

Yes, I should’ve mentioned that.

Yes.

The centers of the lid hoops is about 1-1/2” different OEM BMW vs Tusk. I’d imagine there or 3/4” give either way in the Tisk straps to make them work.

So they will work?
I'm confident they would work or for probably even less money go to you local mega retailer like walmart and in camping and/or sewing section buy some 1" nylon webbing and a couple click together buckles and roll you own. Or para cord and loop it through in a "X" formation and tie it off.

My Jesse panniers have the Jesse metal handles/tie downs, and some brand of rope type handles.

My homemade solution, less than 8$ at REI, sewing of the middle part was made by a local cobbler for a few bucks.

IMO, an unnecessary farkle.
Again, $27 delivered for all 3 sets. Not a crazy amount of $$$.
Any link to pannier liners? For the BMW aluminum panniers

Whole other thread. Yes.
I put plastic handles on my metal pillion box. It makes a convenient handhold with which to push the bike around.
I had BMW's straps on some Adventure panniers and noticed, after a month-long trip, that they were getting beaten by me carrying 'em into hotels. I seemed to bang them into each other, door jams, the hallway wall . . . whatever. I bought liners after that mainly because the panniers themselves added around 20+ pounds to my burden getting to the room. Then, there was my helmet.

I've never taken panniers into the hotel room and found I rarely remove them at home unless I'm working on the bike or need to snuggle multiple bikes in close proximity in the garage.

I used to thing that quick attach/detach paniers were paramount, now not so much. Kathy's Journey bags are inexpensive, durable and great quality for short money. They also allow me to keep the the mud, dirt and entomology sampling from the days travels outside and take nice clean bags into the hotel.
