---------------------

Went for a ride today after our first winter storm of the year. It was very early but much needed. We were in the midst of a severe drought and the state was on fire. Three days of rain, snow at 5,000 ft and higher (we live at 4,200 ft) and highs in the 30s. This was taken a few miles from my place and at an elevation of about 5,200 ft. I was just below Marysville. In the 1890s it was the most populous town in Montana due to the gold and silver mining in the area. These days there are less than 100 people in the town, but it has a good bar and a popular ski hill.

La Bufadora?? I have to ask because I was there once as a child and forget what the place was like, but the geysers were neat. Mom also let us buy explosives. Explosives are neat, too.
Good guess but no. This is further south and quite wild by comparison. But yes La Buf is so cool. We had lunch there the day before.

Just rode through Monitor Pass. Still a ton of snow up there. Some areas were 3x as high in snow. Worst is yet to come, I think.

This photo was taken on section 11 of the TAT last year. I live 18 miles south of the trail so I take the bikes on the trail and give em a good thrashing. On this day I was near the Mt. Zion church where the week before we had a ton of rain and the rivers were not Fordable in many sections.

I'm glad I did not dump the bike as it was new and I was unaware of the problem people were having with the crash bars cracking the head covers from simple drops. I just ordered a set of BDCW reinforcement bars and a set of covers to help with the rock protection.

I think the guys that just went by my AO on the TAT are going to need a bit of rerouting when they get to CO.. I'm guessing high dirt passes will not be open till end of July? What were the temps up that high?

Philippi, WV, the site of the first ground battle of the Civil War, June 3, 1861. (First Battle of Bull Run was July 21). Confederates held the town. Union troops rushed the town through this covered bridge.

Not the TAT shack but a shack none the less. No doubt this shack saw some Civil War action. Located on section 11 of the TAT South TN.
First time riding a GS with legit off road tires on. Feels like a whole other bike with all the riders aids turned off!

Metcalf Motorcycle Park. Dirt trails are great fun. But this is a big beastie for the m/c park.

Started off with a bit of an issue. The rest of Mississippi riding was drama free. I hope I got this out of the way early.
I ended up finding help from a logger who I heard nearby. It was a two man drag/lift. The bike was laying down hill more than the picture depicts.

A good wake up call to set my brain right.

If the post that the bike seat is leaning against was not there to stop the bike the next stop would have been six feet down to the creek! I was very lucky.

Day two of my TAT ride ended at the Shack for the night. Nice and quiet and with no cell signal! I felt like I was back in the 80s. Its good to go dark from time to time. Helps the brain decompress from the shizzle show we have going on!

This weekend I followed the Gasconade River from where it meets the Missouri River to its headwaters. The river is the crookedest in Missouri and the longest that is all within the State. I have wanted to canoe it but being 300 miles long it would take over 2 weeks. I have never had that kind of time. A few pictures:
