Been ages since I posted here, WOW, the new site looks great!

Anyway, yesterday I was checking the valve-clearances in my Camhead engine. I'd never noticed these rubber blocks before but yesterday one of them fell out while I had the cover off. I figured that since they're just hard rubber and have no moving parts and are only held in place by their shape, they're probably some sort of vibration-dampers or something like that. An online parts-fiche I looked at calls them, in typical Germanic vagueness, 'twist protection.' What exactly do they do?

protection from the cylinder head cover twisting when bike is dropped? May be a typical part they put in all boxers as most RnineT users I saw defy crashbars.
