Setup for radio listening

Hi,

On the K16GT I had before, I was able to listen to radio stations and SiriusXM, and easily change stations using the "WonderWheel" and as long as I stayed with the BMW bluetooth headset I could change the volume as well.

Moving forward; today I have the Neotec II helmet with Sena SRL2 headset, with the bluetooth cradle on the R1250GS. I can't change the volume with the WW, but I can change tracks when playing for example Spotify. The SRL2 has radio built in and I have learned how to change the channels, etc (pull over, get off the bike, jump three times, raise your left hands thumb facing south and...well, you get the picture).

I'd rather stream it from the internet, since that presents a lot more choices although it is cell tower dependent. And I don't mind paying a small premium if the service/app has useful functionality (easy to use and possibility to store favorite channels, etc).

I'm open to new hardware, specific solutions, etc and a big bonus is of course usage of the WW.

So, I am asking if someone has a setup that works with the WW and a smartphone app (or some other gadget) listening to radio-stations which they are happy with?

I've got a Sena 50R that I wear when riding either of my BMW's.

When the headset is paired with the bike, and the phone to the TFT, the wonder wheel controls the following either with Apple iTunes or Pandora:
  • volume up / down
  • next track and last track
  • pause / play (via TFT)
  • song (via TFT)
  • artist (via TFT)
  • album (via TFT)
What doesn't work:
  • playlists
  • "hey siri"
On my RT with the radio module, I've got AM/FM/XM but not on the GSA.

When I had the trial subscription for XM, I used it via the XM app but wonder wheel functionality was limited to volume and pause/play (if I recall correctly). Couldn't change the station unless I actually interacted with the phone.

Sena 50 has built-in FM and I finally figured out how to use the buttons to make it work. I don't do any pre-sets but rather scan.

Right now about 80% of my listening is Pandora with the other 20% iTunes.

I'd love it if BMW were to passalong the "hey siri" command so I could switch music apps, Pandora stations, etc. But that's not on the enhancements list from what I understand.

I also bought a Sena with FM radio thinking it would be nice. Sena’s controls are such a mess. I never use it. If I accidentally switch the radio on I can’t even figure out how to switch it off again. So I am stuck to singing and humming to myself which works great and fortunately nobody else has to hear it.
