First thing I notice on the 1st frame of the tutorial video a power tool is used to undo the valve cover bolts. DO NOT do this! Use hand tools!

Woodman,

Like any new comer here I ask that you post your location. There is a good chance that there is someone local to you than can walk you through this or any other maintenance you want to learn to do.

The MAX tutorials are first rate. Check out the oil change tutorial as well, just for the professionalism of both work and video.

You don’t necessarily need the spark plug tool as a DIY owner-mechanic. A large flat head screwdriver works perfectly fine if you are gentle, at least on my ‘09 it’s never been a problem.

I piece of string like an old shoe string worked behind the wire and up next to the coil head then gently pull out.

And you can use the same shoestring to open your brake fluid reservoir! BMW maintenance on a shoestring 😁

Yup and a piece of string trimmer line to hold/maneuver the lower u-joint when raising the rear drive up to mate the splines.

The shoestring works great for cleaning the spokes. I wrap it around each spike a couple of times and then floss away with a spritz of wheel cleaner.

I’ve actually been living on a shoestring for I don’t know how long…
