Windscreen Spoiler?

Anyone find a windscreen spoiler that WORKS?

Specifically, I'm 6' tall. At 50mph or less I'm fine. But I commute on the freeway an hour to work and like to go way faster than that, lol. A lot of buffeting but worse is the deafening wind noise in my helmet. My RT deflected the wind properly and this wasn't an issue. My GS is WAY more comfy except for this issue. Any help from experienced tall folks is greatly appreciated.

I upgraded to the BMW touring windscreen and it didn't really help (not that much bigger). I was thinking of adding the Touratech Evo: touratech-evo-windscreen-spoiler since it doesn't mount permanently and looks like it wouldn't mess up the view much with the mounts on the sides in stead of center.

If there isn't one that works, is there an aftermarket windscreen that does?

Cheers!

I had the same problem and tried few screens and spoilers. I'm 6.2. At the end I settled with Wunderlich Marathon screen and MRA spoiler "VSA-TYP B". That spoiler is not permanent mount so no need to drill the screen. Besides the screen and the spoiler, I added 20mm spacers on lower screen mounts (with longer screws) so the screen is tilted more towards me.
All of that removed 50% of wind noise and 100% of buffeting. I also wear ear plugs all the time.

I got the large version of the Puig and it works very well. I also strongly suggest you first get a set of earplugs. Puig Clip-On Windscreen Visor | 5% ($6.02) Off! - RevZilla
I use this and it works very well on my 2020 GSA
Thanks you two! That's pretty much the same as the one I linked so I wasn't sure if the Touratech or Puig were better for our needs. I should've mentioned I ALWAYS wear earplugs. I have enough hearing loss that the military says I need hearing aids, but not enough hearing loss for them to buy them for me, ugh!

That's great, I'll check it out. I am all about ear plugs too, no worries.

Lower the oem screen to it's lowest setting or even remove it. You will be amazed how quiet things become.
I' ve done the opposite. I tilted the screen towards me and not straighten it up. It helped a lot.
Thanks you two. I haven't tried that at 80mph so I'll give it a go tomorrow! Cheers.

My MRA X screen works well, lots of adjustment, I'm 6'3" (~33 inseam so not a super long torso). Cheap chinese deflectors available if you want to experiment before spending more.
Perfect! Solid knock off off the fancy ones to experiment. :D Good find!

I also tried cheap chinese clip-on spoiler that actually made the buffeting worse. That is why I ended up with MRA clip-on spoiler as they are known for very good wind management with their screens, which I could confirm with my previous bikes. I tried all the screens mentioned as good in this forum and stopped at Wunderlich Marathon. There was only one screen still to try and it was MRA. As for others, OEM screen kept at home for when bike goes to the market, Puig Touring + Puig Spoiler offered to a friend, Givi screen went to garbage bin, chinese spoiler to the garbage as well, etc.

I'm 6'3 with a tall torso I am also searching for the holy grail! The wind noise from the 2022 GS above 70mph is terrible. The GSA isn't much better. I also suffer from being blown up and returning fire so I do wear earplugs. I have a Shoei RF1200 and a GT-Air2. Both helmets are fine on other bikes. I can stand up at 80mph and its completely quiet when I get above the screen.
Ive tried the following screens and do not find the investment in any of them to be worth changing from the factory GSA.
1. National Cycle V-Stream with brackets
2. Puig Touring with brackets
3. Factory GS
4. Factory GSA

FWIW, I used to use a $20 spoiler, but wind knocked over my bike and my entire GSA windscreen cracked. I replaced it with the Puig 6486W Clear Touring Screen. Only $125 and well worth it. Zero issues with the wind and no buffeting. Sidenote, I am also 6 feet tall.

I played a lot with wind noise on a 2010 F800GS and a 2015 R1200GS. At one point, I put a sound meter in front of my face to measure noise. I also taped bits of yarn to the windshield to see air flow.

One important thing is having a good opening in the screen with the air directed or ducted up the back side to relieve some suction at the top. That really allows more height of airflow above the top of the windshield. The GS does has a small duct built into the bottom.

A second thing was AeroFlow AeroGards. They made EVERY windshield significantly smoother and quieter. The only downside is in hot weather. There is a lot less cooling flow over the arms and body.

If you wear glasses, try raising the visor as it might create a flow smoothing connection and/or second sound wall to the air off of the top of the windshield.

A small windhield and a good helmet are also respectably smooth.

Puig Large touring screen for my GS. Big improvement over the stock screen with a Wunderlich deflector.

I am about as tall as you. I find its actually the wind coming from below the handlebars and hitting the lower body and burbles up toward your head. Next time you out on open road test by putting your left arm over your stomach, that its parallel to the road. The GS Adventure has 2 little clear perspex lips on the tank on the side that take that away.

I have been looking for something like that for the normal GS or non adventure.

I have a PUIG screen on and its fairly good. MRA screens apparently according to Missenden Flyer on Youtude works a treat.

I am 6' also and have excellent wind protection and very little buffeting with the V-Stream shield. but as you see from the comments there are many opinions. I also always wear foam ear plugs, particularly to improve music quality via Sena.

Hi folks.

New member here. I ride a 2023 GS.

Question: Any thoughts on whether a Puig Clip-On visor will work well on the stock windscreen of a GS?

Doing some longer rides this season and wonder if the product would reduce wind noise/buffeting without putting too much stress on the stock windscreen In the “up” position.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Moved your post to this thread as there is some good info in the replies above.

Based on previous discussions on the forum definitely add a windscreen brace, a search will find various options—even Aliexpress.

For deflectors I suggest buying a cheap Aliexpress or eBay one to see if it’ll work for your torso height and windscreen. If it does you can invest in the good stuff. If not you are only out $20. Wind management can take some trial and error that can get expensive.

2018 R1200GS with stock windshield. I am 6 foot. Lots of wind buffeting putting lots of strain on my head after close to an hour in the saddle at highway speed.
What windshield deflector do you recommend. I am not interested in replacing the stock windshield. Yes I have tried to lower and adjust the height position of the screen with minor results.

Thank you
