I just bought a 2014 R1200 GS. The prior owner wants to keep the GPS unit only but will leave the existing cradle on the bike. He is willing to give me credit towards a new GPS unit.

So I can buy a new one with the newer (??) 4 button cradle as part of the package.

Questions are:

1) The new GPS will work on the old cradle ? (It seems obvious but you never know - so I ask)
2) The old style cradle locks - does the newer style lock the GPS unit into the cradle ?
3) How difficult is it to swap out the old cradle for the newer one ?

TIA

Michael

Michael - as I understand it, the cradle with the buttons is intended for bikes that do not have the "shuttle wheel controller" device on the left hand grip area.
The shuttle wheel does all that the buttons do and more without having to take your hand away from the hand grip.
So if I am right, you won't want or need the other cradle anyway and could save some money.

This assumes your GS has the "shuttle wheel controller".

Once you get to use this, it is an amazing help when riding and navigating, but also for bike status etc.

If you do need the mount with four buttons on it, and it is the OEM part I had, then yes, it locks in the same way.
Hope this helps.

The cradle on your bike will work with every BMW Motorrad Nav device from the Nav IV to the latest Nav VI. It may work with older GPS units but I can't comment on that. If your bike is GPS equipped then you have the wheel on the left handle bar and you're not going to want the button cradle once you've used that method of controlling the GPS. If you're not sure, go to your dealer and play around with one there. Any pre-TFT display bike will work the same same as your 2014.
