Hello everyone, I recently bought a 2004 r1200gs.
I have a bit of a weird question, I would like to replace the gauges with a newer one for more information while riding such as immediate fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, riding range and all the other capabilities of the more refurbished gauge.
I know the gauges are exactly the same in terms of installation but are there any other changes I need to make to do such a thing?
Do I need to replace the motorcycle's computer as well?
Has anyone done such a thing?
Thanks in advance Hadas :)

Hi hadaslv, welcome on board.

In 2009 (my r1200gs) the onboard computer is an option (X539A), my guess is that the computerm is always sending the information on the canbus. If that option was available in 2004, installing a guage displaying theses informations might work (not sure, you'll have to try).

Check with your local owner's club is someone could provide you with a GS911, you could see what information are available from the computer.

While the new dash has more functions It’s doubtful the old bikes computer can support them.

Friends Thank you so much for the comments, very happy to be part of the biggest adventurer club in the world! I just spoke to the main garage in Israel and they say it is a possible thing, I prefer not to do it through them because it is a very expensive expense compared to the replacement I will make at home. That's why if there are people who do know how to do / what needs to be replaced I would be happy for an answer.
