Is it important to remove the exhaust valve from the header, or leave it alone?
In addition, I usually remove the cat from the header if I have time. Has anyone done this instead of replacing the full exhaust, which I can’t do. Is there a cat in the muffler itself, or just in the hernia in front of the exhaust valve on the header?
thanks

Why remove either? What year bike? If it is a 2018 or newer shift cam then removing the cat will throw a code since it has both upstream and downstream O2 sensors.

It’s a 2015 Gsa. The flap valve seems to be there just to make exhaust Quiet at idle, and ads a lb or 2 to bike weight. Plus I’ve seen lots of reports of the valve freezing seizing, so don’t want it getting stuck closed.

It is not paramount to remove the flapper. If it sticks while out and about its not had to pull the muffler and stick it on the open position.

I have removed the cat in a set of hexhead headers and noticed no difference. I have Remus crossoverless headers and their is a performance difference between them and OEM. I will also say the performance difference is not worth what someone originally paid for the them. I ended up with them through buying and selling bikes. I would have never paid new prices for these as the gains are not that great.

For me the 1250 already has about 30% more HP over the Hexheads I'm used too so I'm not looking to eek out another 4 or 5 HP especially having spend to spend $2,000 or $3,000 to do it. Honestly if I wanted more HP I'd just buy a R1290 Adventure that has 24 more HP than the R1250 and $6,000 less money.

99.9% have not had an issue with the flap and the few people who did complain said it got stuck open. Mine squeak a bit around the 10,000 mile mark but it quit and has been fine every since. It now has 52k on it. I think the trick is not to oil it. So you don't need to mess with anything on the exhaust. It's not a Harley.

Do u know the difference between a Harley and a Hoover?

the dirtbag attaches in different spots!

My 2015 GSA had flapedectomy and PO put the full Akro titanium on it. It's beautiful and a bit louder, but personally I wouldn't do it for the cost of vs performance either.

Anyway, the servo motor was left and it finally conked out. I just replaced it with a ServoBuddy and was on my way. If you do remove, undo, etc. any of this, pit the all the parts in box including the servo motor (it's $$$) and plug in a Servo Buddy.

The flapper valve enhances low end torque. It also does quiet the exhaust a bit also. It might have a small affect on emissions as well your best bet is to,leave it alone.

My GS is 2021 and the flapper valve is still working fine. But when and if it goes bad, I'll remove it. I still have 7 months of warranty on the bike.

Why not go to a local battery shop and see what they have to offer. Then if you have a problem or warranty claim they can take care of it on the spot. I normally buy locally, and the prices are the same for good quality batteries. Earlier this year I bought a budget battery (good reviews) and it turned out to be no good. For the record I have also bought name brand battery's locally, and they have been bad from the start or fail in short order. The difference the battery I bought online was a monumental problem to get remedied whereas locally it was take the bad battery in walk out with another.

So this will fit a ‘15 Gsa ? It is taller than oem, but the price is very 😊 good.
thank u 4 info much appreciated
Yes, please DO NOT support Amazon. It is a horrible horrible company. Treats its employees like dirt and the sellers that sell on amazon in the same way. So why give Amazon your money. There are so many other places you can buy from at better prices too. Thanks.

That depends on who you talk to. I have talked to people who work at Amazon who love it. In contrast I know people who work for UPS (A union shop) and hate it.
As long as the product I buy on Amazon isn't made in China I'm in.
