I am thinking about a new tank bag for my GSA. Would like to find one that is good sized and easy to remove to fuel up. Does anyone here have a Givi that mounts to the fuel ring? They look like they are easy to remove to fuel up, at least. Had also thought about a Wolfman but think you have to unbuckle it to fuel up. No dealer close by to see the quality of the bags and how they look on the bike, doesn't help one decide what to buy.

A bag that was held by the new super Velcro so that you could easy remove and place back on the bike easily would be nice to me.

Don't have my GSW yet, but the Givi T489 Tanklock is near the top of my list. All the other tanklocks are too big except the 4 liter semihard one and that's too small!

I haven't the least concern about Givi quality, but considerable concern about how it looks on top of that big hump they call a gas tank! Haven't seen a pic of one on a 1200 yet, so I'll be interested in any responses from someone who has one.

Update: Found several pics of the T489 on a 1200 GS and was NOT impressed! It's too flat on the bottom and sticks up in the rear about 2 inches!
The T491 is about the same size and is contoured so it doesn't look as bad, but it has that ridiculous man purse thing you can take off and wear.....not for me!

Then I found this: Givi tanklock tankbag on 1200GS - ADVrider ....and so I'm now back to square one....

Maybe I'll just keep my Giant Loop Fandango and put a towel under it.

I got one of these (Givi Xstream Range XS308 Tank Bag) for mine, and am pretty happy with it. It performed well on a recent 1746 mile trip. Ran into some really severe rain and the inside stayed dry, even though I did not use the rain cover.

It does have the quick mount system called Tank Lock that has a ring around the fuel filler that the bag snaps onto. $186.98 for bag and mount kit, when I bought it, now apparently on sale for $170.99. For the GSW you also need the BF11 tanklock ring. Motorcycle Superstore did not know what tank ring for the GSW when I ordered mine, so I researched it with Givi corporate via email.

The tank lock systems sounded great at first but what do you do with the bag when gasing up? When I am really packed and loaded I just wouldn't have a place to put it except on the ground, I guess.

With strap 'n clip or magnets systems the bag is always tethered and I just slide it out of the way. Usually I don't even get off the bike.

The new BMW GS bag uses a strap with clips and has waterproof zipper, anybody have experience with it? Does it block the instrument cluster or GPS?

Tank Bag

I am looking for something that is works for me and is fueling friendly. Right now I have a smaller bag and can slide it sideways. But it won't stay centered on the tank so you have to keep pushing it back to center. I really don't want to have to undo the squeeze clips that are covered with material every time to fuel up. To me a harness that stays on the bike with Velcro holding the bag would work the best. I can find a place to sit the bag when fueling up. I am hoping the BMW dealer is open on Friday as I will be going by and can see what they have.

Thanks for the ideas!

The Givi tanklock bag comes with a "safety" strap that I loop around under the steering head. When it is time to gas up, I pop the bag off the tank ring and simply let it dangle down the side of the bike. Easy.

The XS308 is too big for me, but the XS307 might work. I can't tell from any pictures I've yet found....does the 308 have a flat bottom and stick out well above the tank in the rear? Have you had any issue with the tank ring scratching the paint like the thread I referred to above?

You have probably posted a pic from the side somewhere on the many threads you're on, but I can't find it at the moment. (Hint, hint....:p)

So far, there has been no paint scratching that I have noticed, and I am not particularly fussy about it when popping the bag back into place.

I don't have a very good pic of the bike straight on from the side so you can see, but the bottom of the 308 has a curve to it, so it bends down following the curve of the tank as it slopes down toward the seat. It it never flops around nor touches the tank panel. Hang on, this one shows it, but is very large, so I am not embedding it: http://emoto.smugmug.com/photos/i-NbC5WMs/0/O/i-NbC5WMs.jpg

Thanks! That doesn't show up in the Givi pics. I wonder if the scratching is only an issue with the T491. Sheesh! It looks like you could put your HELMET in there! Or a twelve pack of beer.....:D

I have found some on bike pics of the XS307 on YouTube since posting, might be just right.

Maybe so. Here's everything "tanklock": Search

Care to share one of those links showing the 307 on a bike? The 307 is 15L, my 308 is 20L, and they jump from 15L down to 4L with nothing in between.

I know the topic is Givi or Wolfman, but from the problems expressed take a look at the Touratech tank bag. The bottom is form fit to the hump so it can't slide around and the bag rides low. It has two hooks at the front and velcro at the back-so you lift up the velcro and unhook the front for fuel access. Comes in a couple different sizes.

Down side-not cheap and you have the hooks and velcro in place when the bag isn't.

I've got one and have about 6K with it. I don't care for the strap set up, but admit it works well. Unclip one strap for fill ups. No problem. The waterproof zipper works well and the map holder compartment seems to be a bit bigger so it accommodates displaying a larger map surface. I've a Zumo 665 mounted with a Ram mount. Nothing is obstructed by the bag And it fits the tank perfectly. I do not regret buying it.

I have the touratech. The straps are not particularly intrusive when the bag is removed in my opinion.

I also don't have to take the bag off to fill up with gas, just pull the bottom of the bag off the velco and hinge it forwards, it stays put between the bars and the screen, with full access to the filler cap.

Be Careful of Lock-Ring Attachments

I have owned a number of Givi products and the quality is first rate. I like the looks of the Givi tank bags and I'm certain they are well made. I was prepared to order a Givi tank bag for my 2014 BMW R1200GS until I read a blog from a fellow who accidentally lost his Givi tank bag twice while the bike was in motion. According to the blog, the Givi tank lock-ring works most of the time but, has not been completely perfected. In both cases the bag did not completely fall off the machine as there was a tether of some sort connected to the bag and bike. Nonetheless, I am not interested in tank bag that might come loose while blasting down some gravel road at high speed. This blog had me completely spooked! I ordered the City Tank Bag from Twisted Throttle together with the appropriate tank lock-ring. I have not read anything to suggest this bag may become accidentally detached. Hopefully, I made a good choice.
