Hi.
2009 r1200gs
I am trying to fit front fog/aux lights.
I have researched but can't find answer so any help gratefully received.
I have a spare relay carrier next to starter relay which is for this purpose so I am thinking if I buy relay and plug in it is wired already for the job. But where is the power line I need to use please???

Buy a $5 30a 4-pin fused relay and make your own harness that connects to the battery and triggers off a keyed power source. Keeps the aux lights separated from the bikes wiring which in my opinion is always a good thing,

Attached is a wiring diagram for a on/off and an on/off/on switch

On/off switch is if you run one color lights
On/off/on is if you run dual color lights

Left side of the airbox under the side panel the tank breather valve (# 6 in the parts breakdown) has a plug with two wires going to it. The blue it keyed positive.

If you are interested in a duckbill or toggle switch mount I also came up with this mount made out of 3/4" x 1/16" aluminum angle and mounts beside either side of the gauge cluster on the wind screen support/frame

Thanks all. Very helpful. Went into sidelight and built independent harness with fused relay.
Appreciate your help. First time on here. Way better than fb which seems to be full of people buying new bikes.....no offence....lucky u.....
Got this bike as non runner. Stood 7 yrs. So far alternator. Starter. Starter relay fix , splines' brakes and shocks (esa) due back tomorrow after rebuild so been an interesting journey. At least I know my bike a bit better I hope. Thanks again.

There is also an ignition-controlled power source behind your headlight. I posted some pictures here a month or two ago. You can buy an adapter called “repair cable” from BMW for $15, my dealer had it in stock as it’s the same part number for all bikes from 2004-2023. It is another option for the trigger wire to the relay and it will not cause any issues with the Canbus when used for this and other accessories such as GPS and phone charger etc. Feel free to send me a PM and I can share details on my aux lights installation. I used a relay harness which came pre-made with the lights.

Hogges, would you kindly share the details on your auxiliary lights install? I'm looking to install lights and the bike cae with GPS so I'm assuming the 'repair cable' might already be installed. I'm just not confident in myself at attempting the install without instructions. I don't even know what this cable looks like :(

Here is the thread where I posted some pictures of the repair plug installed for my application. My bike is a 2009, FYI. I routed the power from the repair plug underneath the tank where it splits to supply the aux light relay trigger, and another cable going back up toward the handlebar to supply the phone charger, 12V adapter and GPS. It's best to take the tank off for a proper aux light installation.

By the way the lights I have are the "Goldrunway" brand, EXP3 model, sold on Aliexpress. Mine are going strong since 2019 with zero problems. The machining quality of all solid aluminum parts including the heavy duty mounting brackets is impressive. The optical quality is great, too. I bought them mainly to be seen, with the yellow lens covers, only to find they are also awesome at night to expand your vision. All connectors are waterproof. I see the price has gone up quite a bit since then. If you are looking for something less expensive than Clearlight or Denali I would give these a look. Yes, they are Chinese, but there appears to be an impressive focus on quality at this company.

Awesome, I do have the repair cable...I was wondering why I have a yellow wire there, it jumped out at me and I was debating over covering it up with some cable sleeve!

Ours is a 2009 as well.

I've bought the lights from Amazon, tested them and they are great. I wouldn't hesitate buying from Ali Express either, have some goodies coming from them soon. The lights are to be seen, not for more light. I have fog lights that I use as driving lights in our R1200C and I love it! Just looked up the EXP3, they look solid and I like their size.

Checking out your thread now :) thank you!
