I’ve tried all companies and types of Tires. The best I’ve found is the Road pilot 5s by Michelin. I ride over a hundred miles daily on my GS, and I’m just over 7,000 miles with these tires and about ready to buy a new set. All others like Dunlop, Metzler, etc., I’ve got just over 3,000 miles out of them before the rear tire is completely bald. If anyone has had any experiences with other tires getting more miles on the road, please share.

Road Pilots!
That's 2 thumbs up for the road pilots. I am on my 3 sets of road pilot 4 gt. Long lasting, great in the rain, and reasonably quiet. Rears last ~ 15,000km, fronts at least 20. I am not interested in any offroad shenanigans, 2 up touring on our 2015 gs.

"Best" is subjective. "Best" how?
Mileage
Handling on/off the pavement or wet/dry conditions.
Breaking
Price
Road noise or lack thereof
If it is strictly mileage, there are better "best" options. A $90 car tire on the rear will last 20,000+ miles.

For me, it's all about the dry grip. I haven't found a better tire than the Dunlop Roadsmart 3. When I do dirt, I'll put 50/50 tires on it.

Could this have something to do with your on-road driving style? When you purchase tires, do you check for the mfg? Is the date stamped on the tire?

I have a 2014 R1200GS with 78,000+ (s)miles and have been very happy with Conti Trail Attack II (2 sets over 20,000 miles each) and currently have Conti Trail Attack III. The IIIs were installed in May 2019 for a trip from Phoenix to Austin, Texas. From Austin rode to Sacramento, California. For my riding needs, the Contis are incredible. The Conti's are a dual compound zero-degree radial and have good warm-up characteristics, are very stable on diagonal pavement transitions, have good wet grip, and are decent on maintained dual tracks. The rear tire pictured below has about 15,000 miles.

Every Pilot road I've ridden, 1,2,3,4 have started slipping on tar snakes at 4k miles...unnerving. Mileage ok, like 8-8500, not going to bite at the 5s, Michelin had their chance.
two favs are Pirelli Scorpion trail 2 s and Tourance Nexts. Scorpions were a bit of a smoother ride, Nexts handled dirt and gravel better. Both have excellent wet and dry traction, Both are giving me around 10k miles, IOW better than the Pilot Roads.
Mileage is a personal thing (YMMV), but relative to the Michelins the Pirellis and Tourances are giving me 20%, maybe <25% better mileage, a better ride and more confidence.

Does the front look as good? That's amazing getting that kind of tire wear. Do they stick in the corners?

I to am considering tires, 98% on the road??? I've seen Michelin on a lot of bikes in my area as well as Conti.....

Better yet, how heavy are you ever on the throttle??? It looks like that tire was only ridden to church on Sunday. Sorry but damn! I can't get 2000 miles out of a set of tires on my S1000XR. I just bought a 1250 GS and I will be over the moon to get 4.000 miles out of any tire. All of my riding is in the mountains and that might have something to do with it.
I also ride a Goldwing and have friends that get 20.000 miles out of a set of tires. The BEST I have ever gotten is 7,000 miles. I do like a spirited pace.

While I've run the Dunlop Roadsmarts on my GS the last few sets I was curious about the Dunlop Trailsmarts so I bought a set. I only have about 2K on them but these are very nice tires. I have no idea why more people aren't using this tire. Nice and quiet on the highway and can handle the curvy roads without any drama. Very confidence inspiring. I just need to find a dirt road.

Tourance Next or Pirelli Scorpion Trail II . -- very similar to above and similar experience--I have no experience with the Road 5's but the Tourance and Pirellis FAR superior to the Road 1,2,3, 4--all of which I've used, in mileage and handling both wet and dry. I am not willing to bite on the 5's because of the previous experiences

Just finished a full season on the next..very impressed..rode em hard,on tons of twisties..pulled em off at 15K KMS..could of stretched out a little more but I was off on another long haul and wanted fresh..have the adventures on now,little to buzzy for my liking,nowhere near the feel on twisties..better on fire roads but I do little of that..can’t wait to get the next back on..silent assassin’s

Hopping onto this discussion two years later. Have a 2015 GS, basically one up all the time, daily commute of 50km (30m?). Bought the bike with Anakee's which gave me heartstoppers x 3 in the first 600 miles. Off they came. Pirelli Scorpion Trail II's have done 20k km's (12k miles). Good for another 8k km rear, front must go soon. Pirelli has been brilliant in heavy rain, hot weather and super comfy. Very nervous about changing especially after reading about your experiences.
I'm just coming over from a K1600 GTL to a 1250 GSA. Have tried a few different brands on the K. Dunlop RS3's have proven to be the best for wear and equal best with Metzler for grip. I get between 8-10K miles of Dunlops and 7-8K on the Metzler's. Ditched the OEM Bridgestones as useless early on in proceedings. I'm holding out for RS4's but no luck here in Europe yet. The K1600 are known for eating tyres and I always ride heavily laden and do not hang around, if you're only getting 3k miles out of RS3's you must be really, really pushing the boat out bearing in mind the weight of the GTL + me + camping equipment etc as opposed to that of the GS. Enjoy, keep it blue side up and out of the tree's ;-)
