BMW-ism? Low oil level?

On my 2007 GSA I sometimes get it when I’m parked downhill, as tho oil level sensor is in the back of the sump. Not sure if it moved places on the liquid cooled bikes but if you were off camber, that’s likely the root cause.

Just to bump this thread. After my initial post the indicator came on again and when I checked it, it wasn't "low" as far as below the red circle, but it was in the bottom 1/4 of the circle. I added just a little bit to get it up just above the 1/2 mark on the glass. Rode about 600ish miles since then in the past couple weeks and got the oil level again today while out. When I got home I followed the manual to a T and checked. The oil level was just above the red ring. I put about 1/2 qt of oil in and it looks good now.

My question is how concerned should I be about this? I'm brand new to BMW, and used to japanese bikes which I've never had oil issues. There are no visible leaks, and I'm not seeing anything coming out the exhaust. Do these things burn oil normally?
There are some reports of oil burning, usually at lower miles. How many on your bike?

Some report less oil usage with some brands/types of oil, searching old threads may come across some to try.

Sorry should have mentioned it, added almost half a quart. That brought it up to just over 3/4 on the sight glass. 25k on the bike
I’d very closely check your air filter for any dirt slipping by, then search for a different oil. If you are in a warm/hot climate could run a thicker oil, 10w40 on liquid cooled boxer, just make sure it meets the specs. I wouldn’t be afraid of a 15w40 synthetic—I’d just be sure to warm the engine up well before leaning on it.

When does my bike stop burning oil?

Unfortunately, all reciprocating engines burn oil throughout their lifespan. It is not unusual to see an engine burn up to a quart of oil every 1,000 miles.
