I was shopping for some boots. (I am wearing boots I bought 10 years ago). Does anyone have a recommendation or suggestion?

Can I suggest that you identify your requirements a bit more. What sort of off-road bias are you looking for, what's your budget, do you have broad or narrow feet, large or small calves and are you happy with a boot that isn't waterproof?

Yeah, it would have to be waterproof, gore-tex is good. About 10% offroad. I was looking at the Daytona enduro boot. I heard good things about Sidi.
My experience is that Sidi being Italian are made for slim-footed Elves like me while Daytonas are lasted for clod-footed Orcs.....;)

So depending upon the size and shape of your feet, it looks as if the options are Daytona Trans Open GTX - currently $500 from Helimot or Sidi Adventure. Previously the Gore-Tex version of the Sidi boots wasn't imported into the USA and a Tepor version was substituted for it. However, I believe for 2011, Motonation are importing the Gore-Tex model at a retail price of $625.

If you can accept a lower level of protection, there's the TCX Infinity Gore-Tex which can be had for c $325. These are the boots I wear for every day road riding and are probably the best boots I've owned.

I will take your advise and conclude I should try them on (not just order online). San Jose BMW has started carrying Sidi. Also, there is road rider. The Sidi adventure looks pretty cool and are $125 less than the Daytona Adventures.
Road Rider certainly had the Tepor Sidi Adventure boots in stock when I was in there in August last year.

Checking in

I like the boots, they are good looking with lots of protection.

However, they squeak like mad when walking. I get funny looks when I walk into somewhere I have commuted too. Also, they may be too tall to fit in the luggage I am thinking of buying. (When I switch to walking shoes and lock them up). Just not a good commuter boot.

The squeak is a pain, but will slowly go away. I had some success using some teflon/wax chain lube sprayed on the backside of the plastic sections where they rub on the leather. Squeak went away right after that and hasn't come back yet.

Asolo Fugitive GTX

I do a daily commute and ride asphalt 95% of the time. I did all the research on adventure boots and decided to head to REI and pick up some nice Italian hiking boots. Chose Asolo Fugitive GTX. For me, my Asolo boots together with my Alpibestars leather jacket and Klim Dakar pants is a good set up. I plan to buy some used Alpinestars Tech 10 MX boots just for dirt days.

I've decided to go for some MX boots as they offer a little better protection... I just purchased the Sidi Crossfire SRS about six weeks ago and I'm totally happy with them. I picked them up for $400, which was pretty steep as far as I'm concerned...but I'm glad I got them. The closure on the boots is amazing and for the most part they have been pretty water resistant in light rain. I figure if it's a downpour that I'll just bust out my boot covers along with my rain gear...

One thing I really like about them is that the toe box is not quite as high as other MX boots...this makes shifting much easier...

In the end, any boots are better than no-boots... Think about your ankles, and shins...and feet...

anyone try these? they look super bichin, I was gonna buy the Gaerne oiled but now I like these more, somebody tell me how they are...
I have them. Comfortable, waterproof, price is right... Well compared to some other similar boots anyway. I'd buy them again, I guess that says enough.
