Hello everyone !
I bought a 2015 gs about 14 months ago with 10k miles on it. As soon as I got it I change oil; filter, disassembled drive shaft to inspect and grease both spline, had to purge abs pump (had zero resistance in rear brake lever) changed spark plugs etc to have a fresh start on maintenance as I write down everything that I do on all my bikes to have record.
Now, about 2 months ago the bike started to make more noise at higher rpm; around 3900 and up.
Valve clearance is within specs, left cam chain is tight, Right cylinder cam chain super loose. (Bike as now 13k miles) I changed the cam chain tensioner ($165 for 1, really?...grr) I notice that the spring is about 3 mm longer than the one I took off the bike and the washer a bit thicker which i couldnt use cuz it was not flat and oval..... Bike still have that noise at higher rpm. I haven't open the cover again to check if there is too much slack in it. I understand that oil pressure is needed for proper tension.
So, beside the tensioner, what do I need to check ?

I'm not sure how you can determine the timing chain is loose or tight as there is no physical measurement or place give to measure the slack> The automatic tensioner being spring loaded takes up slack and automatically adjust for wear.

Yes the "updated" tensioner is slightly longer and does get rid of some excessive ticking noise on I believer the left cylinder.

In the video, it is with the (old) tensioner still installed. So much slack could get the chain to jump a tooth or more. I would be a bad day.
I worked on several different bikes before (single cylinder, twin, inline 4) it gives me an idea on how tight the chain should be like.
