I never really thought about it due to space and weight. The chances of needing it compared to a plug kit, mini compressor or something to jump start the bike seems slim. So I would rather carry those. But if you want to carry one I would get an ABC extinguisher. A represents ordinary combustibles, such as plastic, foam or leather. B represents flammable liquids, such as gasoline. C stands for electrical fires. As such an ABC extinguisher (very common) will handle most types of fire on a bike. However, if your bike contains magnesium or titanium you will need a class D fire extinguisher. These type of extinguishers as not as common. Considering how unlikely it would be for the metals to catch fire I would just plan on throwing enough dirt on the metal to smother it (you will need a lot of dirt) should something ever happen.

I have full coverage insurance on the bike. So while I certainly hope it never catches on fire I would be covered if it did. It makes not carrying the extinguisher a bit easier to swallow. But if you travel to the middle of nowhere and it gives you peace of mind go for it.

Truthfully, the fire extinguisher is not for my bike, but for someone else. The reason I ask, this previous weekend, I saw a car fire just starting, and I was thinking how I could assist. I do always carry a patch kit, compressor etc...

Got it, ABC[D] extinguisher...
