What's everyone been paying for the break in service? I remember it being outrages for my Harley. Hoping that's not the case for the GSA. Anyone had it done that owns a 2018? I know they had a TFT update that takes quite a while to do.

o you just told them to include it? I will have to remember that when I get closer to buying. That's good info.

Mine was $250. But I got it thrown in at purchase date. Just oil change and final drive oil.
Not here to say that BMW dealer service is a bargain but initial service on a new bike is more than an oil change and final drive lubricant. It offers BMW the opportunity to go over the machine both mechanically and electronically to insure the initial build was correct, nothing is falling off and engine parameters are sound. 1% of the purchase price for peace of mind is a sound deal, in my book.

First service on my GS was $230 in PA. First Service on my Harley was $500. Still have the Road Glide, but do all my own preventive maintenance now. And the BMW dealership didn't make me feel like they were doing me a favor.

I have a road glide too. I think my first service was like $1,000 or close to it. I'm not kidding. I live in Daytona Beach, FL. I wouldn't have a problem paying $250 for that service and inspection. the bike is $24K plus the GPS and the panures then TTL and whatnot I'm looking at close to $30K. They are going to give me $9K for my 09 Road Glide and I think the total with everything was $19K and some change out the door.

There is nothing magical bout the 600 miles service, they change the oil and filter and the FD gear lube.
Other than that the fluid levels are checked as are safety switched and lights, it is actually the easiest to perform of all scheduled maintenance and contrary to popular belief not having it done by the dealer does not void your warranty on the bike, but as with any maintenance be sure to document it if you do it yourself.
With that said my selling dealer threw it in for free but they normally charge $260.

Correct, it’s not like they check the torque on the cylinder / head bolts. They may plug it into the computer, but I don’t think they actually do any diagnose thing with it. If they say they do, I’d like to be there to watch the results.

Mine was $277 inclusive here in NorCal. Very thorough going over plus all the updates. And you're still right, the Harley initial service is a killer!
Welcome aboard.

I think that one of the primary functions of the 600 miles service is to get the customer acclimated to using the dealership service department for continued patronage which is not necessarily a bad thing and possibly the reason that the service is thrown in no-charge by some dealers.
In terms of updates in 95% + instances unless the bike has been sitting on the floor for months there are no updates and in most cases the updated software package contains nothing of any significance to the customer in terms of performance or feature enhancements, but this is an area that dealers have you by the balls although it's getting to be less the case.

I notice everyone are having there's done at 600, which is what the maintenance schedule says but when I went to book mine here in NY with Max's BMW the service manager told me he didn't want to see the bike until 1000 miles

600 - 1,000 miles is common.

I don't think that many realize that they can complete this service themselves for just under $100 using BMW parts (no discount) and lubes or about $40 using other brands that meet BMW spec's and do it all in about an hour if you are thorough.
There is nothing special about the service.
Besides the engine and FD lube change there is only one simple way to check to make sure that the brakes, lights and safety switches all work and the fluid levels are up.
IMHO most dealers are scamming customers by charging anything over $200.

Jet speed, are u still using the BMW engine oil or switched to something else? Just curious. I figure amsoil or other high end oils (made for motorcycle) might be better than the BMW stuff. Is the BEEMER oil even synthetic? Didn’t say on my bottles.
-thanks

$300 at Daytona beach BMW, in and out in less then two hours
Im in Ormond Beach and will be buying my GSA from Euro Cyles of Daytona which is where I will probably be getting the service done too. Is that where your talking about? Do you have a GSA?

I notice everyone are having there's done at 600, which is what the maintenance schedule says but when I went to book mine here in NY with Max's BMW the service manager told me he didn't want to see the bike until 1000 miles
I thought the recommender service was suppose to be done between 500-700 from BMW.

My GSW is a 2013 back then the owners manual showed Castrol RS 5W-40 as the spec'd oil and that's what I used for the first 4 changes they have since changed to their own label produced by Shell.
Both of these oils are Group III synthetics meaning that they started out as petroleum and were highly refined into something a judge in the U.S allows to be called "synthetic", in fairness most synthetics are Group III sold here.
I used Shell Rotella T6 for a while which meets BMW spec's and is also a gp3 oil but much less expensive and it worked very well. I now use either BelRay EXS or Ravenol Ester which are both Group V full ester and in my opinion are the best oils for this bike, the transmission shifts noticeably smoother with either of them in the crankcase as well.
There was a day when Amsoil was probably the best synthetic oil sold but those days are gone and they now formulate their oils the same as other companies with 90% being full group III and the others a mixture of Group III and IV, they also don't make an oil that is spec'd for our bikes.
