My new-to-me 2016 GS is getting some complaints from the pillion seat, the claim is the box pushes them too far forward and digs into the back.

Can anyone tell by looking if the top box looks too far forward? Also, it's not immediately clear to me how I would adjust it back anyway.

Any help or comparisons to your top box setups regarding pillions would be super helpful, as we all know, pillion complaints can be a keep or sell decision maker, and I really want to keep this bike! :)

My 2012 GSAs factory topcase mount is built at an angle that results in the box sides being almost perfectly vertical with respect to the ground. I can see how the one shown in the picture would be uncomfortable.
Thanks for this info, sounds like I do have an issue that I'll need to resolve. It's not clear to me how to alter the top box angle...does anyone have any pointers as to how that might be done with this top box? Thank you in advance!

What about sourcing a GSA rear rack and swapping it it out with your current GS rack??

Is this spacing of the mounts helping or hurting the angle? I’d be curious if two or three strategically placed flat washers might bring it back to level

Actually, you just pointed out something that I thought was odd the first time I looked at that picture. Are you sure the top box is installed right? The rear trunnion looks like it should be INSIDE the bottom rail of the box, not under it. That would certainly make the box sit more upright, not to mention hold the rear of the box down when it's loaded. The front trunnion looks to be exactly that way, ie it's not visible.

It looks like the box should drop down over the mounting trunnions and then be slid back to lock in place.

Wow, thank you! I see what you mean, I'll investigate a bit more. It's not even clear to me how to remove it to check, I'll be back... :)

You are 100% correct! I can't figure out how to get the box off in order to get it back on correctly, but that's a problem for tomorrow. Thanks so much for your help! Hopefully when this is seated correctly it fixes the bad angle for the pillion! [emoji4]

You were exactly right. I managed to get the box off with repeated firm shoves from left to right, it eventually shifted. Once it was off I was able to put it back on correctly. [emoji4] it alters the angle for sure, maybe not enough, in which case I'll look into adding a few washers as spacers at the 2 front bolts of the mount. Thanks all so much!

A very rough attempt to show the difference...
