Hey all,

Will my Airman Tour compressor run off the dash socket OK? It's a 2018 GSA.

I have an adaptor, but I cannot find the current draw of the compressor, and I don't want to irritate the CANBUS network...

Thanks!

I havn am not familiar with this brand, but I have found a couple of brands that will "run" off the socket but fail to generate enough power to inflate a tire. I have much better luck with a connector pigtailed directly off the battery and no CANBus problems.

I've got a pigtail off of my battery that goes to my Battery Tender and I also have an adapter with a cigarette lighter (type) recepticle on it that will work my compressor. I think it has a 15 amp fuse in it. I also think I got the cord with the adapter from Amazon.

Go ahead and "irritate" your system. Worse thing that happens is that the bike will cut power to the socket. Cycle the ignition and all will be back to normal.

However, if you want to run it off the socket be sure to follow Rick92040 advise and test the pump under load when it gets good and hot. I had an air compressor that would run fine from the socket -- until I actually tried to pump up a tire. The under load current draw was too much for the bike even though the compressor ran fine during my first free running test. I'm glad I found that out in my garage.

That said, I'm in the "connect a fused socket to the battery" camp. I use the same socket when I feel the need to connect a battery charger.

Yeah, no. It might work but I wouldn't do it. Every bike I've owned has a battery tender type pigtail directly off the battery. I use it for keeping the battery charged when I know I'm not riding for a long time and it serves the purpose of a convenient place to plug in my pump where it has a 20A fuse.

No, mine didn't. I found out on the road while repairing a puncture. Good
thing I had tools and a pair of alligator climbs to hook direct to the battery.
Now I have a SAE fused plug directly to the battery. I also have a USB plug
for it to charge my phone while camping.
Do it and leave it under the seat.

I was told by the dealer when I was looking at buying mine that the socket only provides 2 or 3 amps and was never designed to run higher load accessories such as heated gear, air compressors etc. Only for electronic devices or USB chargers

One SAE connector (pigtail) run via a fused wire directly to the battery can serve as a connector to a battery tender, power for an electric air pump, power for heated gear (with the use of an SAE to female coaxial connecter) and a power point for a USB charging station.
