Shifter Modification

Hopefully, I'm not the only one that has issues trying to shift with Riding boots, while standing on the pegs. I needed the shifter raised about 1-1/2" from its stock, below the peg position, to slightly above the peg to allow me to grab the shifter better. After adjusting the shifter rod, sorry if that's not the correct term, I decided to completely remove the all-thread rod and cut 1/4" off each end with my Dremel and thin metal cut-off disk. I left one of the original nuts on each end to spin off to clean the threads and ensure that I could reinstall without issue. This worked perfectly. Not only was I able to move the shifter to a position slightly above the peg, but it also gave me a bit more wiggle room in case I needed further adjustments. I took the bike out last weekend it worked flawlessly.

Hopefully, this might help someone else having the same issue.

1.5”, that’s a fairly significant modification. Great if it works for you.
I am able to shift up or down while standing in offroad sections, with the stock shifter position. However, I don’t stand straight up these conditions, but rather with fairly bent knees. It probably helps that I wear US8/Europe41 boots. I sometimes use the edge of the boot to shift up, rather than trying to get the entire toe box under the shifter.

1-1/2" ish... Worked great for me and my size 11 Tech 7 boots. Being 6-2" I have a bit different riding position than say people of shorter stature.

I am about to cut the threaded adjustment rod on my new bike. So yeah my guess is that 1/4” to 5/16” may do the trick. I wear tech 7 boots and actually to take it one step further, I’ve installed the IMS adv2 foot pegs on the bike so I’m going to need lots of extra room for shifting and what not. I know that accommodating both my boots and massive foot pegs will be challenging, I am hopeful that it will work out because contrary to internet opinions I really like the feel and concept of that big industry foot peg. Any who.. I’ll report back when I get this matter sorted out ☮
