So, I'm looking to buy a seat, could can I get some advice on what is the best seat for high miles? What are the seats everyone uses on these iron butt rides?
Thanks.

I used the original I use the BMW seat that came with the bike. It is very comfortable to me. My wife and I rode to Great Falls , MT from TN to the BMW rally, 5000 miles around trip, averaged 400-600 miles a day. We are 72 yrs old. No problem

I have a 2022 1250 GSA with the stock heated seat and the Alaska Leather fur cover on it and it has been the best for short and long rides. I had the same cover on a Seat Concepts seat tand it felt exactly the same. So in my view the fur makes the whole difference. Then again as someone has already mentioned, your butt fitness means a lot.

I just put a Sargent seat on my 2023 R1250GSA and I had the same seat on my R1200RT. I had reached a point where riding was so uncomfortable on longer rides that I wasn't sure I was going to keep traveling. I was using an Air Hawk; it helped to some degree. I also tried the sheepskin, beads, etc. I met someone on an RT who had a Sargent seat and I sat on it. Felt a little different, but it's hard to tell when sitting for a few moments on a stationary bike. I bought one because I was desperate. Best thing I could have done. I went back to riding long distances in comfort.

When I traded for my new GSA the first thing I did was order a Sargent seat. It came just before I rode 8 hours to the BMWMOA National Rally last week. I was comfortable all the way even though it was a brand new seat. As has been said by others in the responses, everyone is different to some degree, but for me the Sargent seats have kept me riding the long rides I like to do.

Ok here we go, so I purchased the Sargent seat (company was awesome had my seat here in two days with heat) Took off for my ride after 150 miles sides of my legs were having issues with the edges of the seat. Then after 220 miles pain started coming back to tail bone thanks to the GS I can stand when I needed. Called Sargent they told me they could make adjustments if needed but if they did, I could not return it. I decided to return the seat and put my stock back on for now. As long as it's less than 30 days you can return it just pay shipping back so really, I got to demo the seat. To me that's a jam up company! They sell many seats and a lot love them. It just didn't work for me. Thanks for all the comments I did not think this many would reply. (Still searching)

In desperation I bought a high end air cushion in the middle of a multi-week trip with the OEM seat. It was just OK. But there's a potential safety issue on bikes like the GS/GSA when riding off road - we stand so there is potential for cushion movement even with the best strapping. I don't need extra issues navigating a trail. I want my equipment will work. It's why the cushion in on a shelf and the SGTs on my GSA.

Sorry to hear the SGT didn't work for you but happy it was a good experience. Their customer service is awesome.

See if you've got a local seat guy who can rebuild it to your liking. Did that with mine and couldnt be happier. He sloped the pillion seat to where my wife will be leaning back into the top case a little and not plastered to my back, made the seats a little wider will gel foam and dished out the seat. It has helped some with my sciatica. $300

Better question…which oil should I use? Everyone has a different ass, some are Sargent, some Corbin, some factory, etc… for me I started with a factory Rallye seat, no love after 100 miles I started moving, another 50 and I was looking for a place to stop or standing on the pegs for a couple miles…to only repeat the process. Sent it to Sargent for their then new Rallye seat conversion, while more comfortable than factory I still started moving, although around the 150-175 mark. Sold it to a guy on ADVrider and he absolutely loves it, granted smaller guy than I, but no issues. Purchased a Corbin and sold it never being able to try it…wouldn’t fit on the bike, tried to return but they wanted 20-25% restocking fee even though I asked if it would fit the Rallye…again sold that to another guy on ADVrider…I’ll never purchase a Corbin in my life. Purchased a solo Sargent and happy to report I can now run a tank full dry (325+ miles), so I have no idea how many miles I could ride on it as I run out of gas before I’m uncomfortable. BTW the entire seat situation happened over a 2 month period…hopefully you ca get something that “fits” the first time, but I think you might be disappointed the first couple times…as above I was. Good luck
