Hello,

I think my rdc control unit (tpms receiver) is broken. I want to check the wiring or it probably needs to be replaced.
But I can't find it anywhere on my bike. And no info about it in the manual.

Where is it located? (Gs model 2008-2009.)
Thanks guys!

I think it's broken because my mechanic can't connect to it true the ecu, to write new sensor valves.
The software reads all bike settings, accept the rdc unit. It displays communication error.
But I'm not sure. I want to check the rdc unit, disconnect en connect the wiring, clean the contacts.
Maybe it's an other (software)problem..

The fault was there when I bought the bike. The tire pressure is not shown in the cockpit. The seller told me that the battery's of the valves were empty. I did not find it very important. After 6 months I needed new tyres en I installed new sensors valves in the wheels. But now I can not write the new valves into the system... 'google' pointed me at a possible problem with the rdc unit..

Putting in new sensors is not plug and play. I think they need to be set up using the new serial numbers on the sensors or something like that. BMW service should be able to help you with that.

Odds are that the RDC module is not the problem and that the wheel sensors need to be matched to the unit, this can be done with a GS911 tool or by the dealer, the sensors need to be woke up if you don't have the codes that are printed on each sensor if they are oem BMW units.

JetSpeed,

Thank you but I know this. But the problem is that the software can not connect to the rdc unit. The gs diagnostics tool gives a communication error, so I can not set the serials of the new valves into the system, hands it will never work!

The laptop is connected at the ecu plug. The diagnostics program connects to the bike and can read all settings, accept the tpms settings module. When selecting the tpms settings module a communication error is shown.

But I have decided to ride to a certified bmw dealer to handle the problem. Maybe they have newer software or know what it is. It seems a lot of work to remove the cover under de rear seat and I'm still not sure the unit it's even there. Are you sure? Not much space in there..

The dealer's software does a bit more than the GS-911 and should resolve, or at least identify, the problem.

Anecdote: I replaced the fuel strip on my friend's bike and the GS-911 wouldn't calibrate the new one. After several attempts, we reluctantly took it to the dealer. The BMW machine connected and calibrated immediately.

Don't forget to report back on the outcome.

I'm 100% positive it is in there the RDC module is a small plastic box, if you have an alarm it also doubles as the alarm unit, it looks harder than it is to remove the silver cover.

Did that year have them ?

Not sure if that year model had TPMS on it?, maybe that's why it won't connect.

Did the wheels have the sender units in them when you changed the tyres?, if they did, i think they are off a different bike.

Thanks for the help guys. I think this is the faulty rdc module, if it is installed at all... There is no alarm system on the the bike. I will let you know in abouth a month how the problem is solved. For now I bought a simple digital tire pressure gauge to check the tires. Also works! I'm taking a trip to the North Cape Norway next week.

A late update: The rdc unit is replaced which solved the problem.
