Thinking of purchasing a Schuberth C5, now on sale. Any recommendations, pro or con? A better alternative? Thanks.

Have you previously worn a Schuberth? Great helmet but just does not fit my head shape and was very uncomfortable after about 30 min of riding. Luckily, I was able to try my friend's helmet out before making a significant investment. Ended up staying with Shoei.
I have an older Schuberth full face which I like; fits well and is reasonably quiet. I use it when I'm riding my FJ1200. Been a Shoei guy most of my cycling career. On longer trips, I've got a Shark EVO One-2 that I use. It's not my favorite helmet, but it's the most versatile with the chinbar that folds all the way back. Full face, open face, and a more than decent sunshield. There's other helmets I like more, but the Shark has been my go to for several years. With a SENA mounted on the side, a Pinlock shield, and the drop down sun visor, it pretty much does everything.

I've had my C5 for about a year. It fits great and is very comfy and quiet. I have a couple of small issues with it...but these are forgotten most of the time:
1. I'm not crazy about the flip-down shaded inner visor. It's not dark enough and I don't like the shape of the bottom of it. Are they made for people with witch's noses? I'm not sure, but an old, cheap HJC I used to use had a better one. My C3 had a better one as well. They got too clever with this one and I don't think it helped.
2. Built-in electronics from Sena. I'm a Cardo guy. I already had a 2-pack Pac-talk slim set. I made it work but it was ugly. I'll keep this helmet for 5 years, probably longer, so resale isn't a concern for me, but I think these built-in coms are a mistake generally. Tech moves on and you're stuck with old tech with these things unless you also buy a new helmet. One shouldn't force the other. The Sena unit is pretty good, but mine had to be modded quite a bit to fit the Cardo system the way I want it. It works great and allows me to switch back and forth between helmet speakers around town and ear-buds (for long trips).
If you don't have a Shoei head, these are the best helmets you can buy right now....although some prefer the E2. Schuberth quality is great. I think the C5 fits me better than the C3 did. It seems to be kinder to my forehead. The Shoei is murder for me. I can't wear them, but I think they're nice helmets for those who can.
I had a C3 for years. Had to buy a C3 Pro liner for my C3 to end headaches on longer rides. For some reason, it really solved it. I had an off in the Alps 2 years ago. The helmet worked but I didn't want to use it after I got home, so I bought a C5, a top of the line HJC modular and, I think, an AGV modular. When they came in and I could try them all out, the Schuberth was an easy winner...for me, at least. I should also mention that a few years ago, I doled out a lot of money for an AGV carbon fiber helmet that was so loud and poorly made, I just never wear the thing. Junk, as far as I'm concerned.
If you can find your size C5 on sale, buy it.

I loved my C4 pro and yes you are right about the integrated comms...hate em! I moved on to a C4 Pro Carbon and cut out the electronics from them and installed a Cardo. The beak is really awesome feature in the E2 and also my Klim Krios Pro.
Just cuts the sun out which the C4 Pro is not able to even with the black drop down visor. Sun gives me a headache. I want to experiment with the E2 but the only issue is the weight I guess.

I think the C5 is much better than the C4 pro. Just my opinion, but it's a big step up for fit and noise.
E2 seems hellishly expensive. I just flip the helmet chin-guard up to block the sun when it's in my way. It's likely unsafe, but safer than not seeing.
I rode with a C3 for about 4 years (wore it out, the retaining clips in the EPS were pulling out), it was ok for short rides (less than a tank), but for traveling .. .. .. it sucked. Schuberth headaches across the forehead. Switch to an Arai XD4, best helmet ever. It's getting time to replace the Arai and I'll stick with the brand and pay the money for comfort

Yeah, if Arai only made a modular helmet. They don't.
BTW, I have several Arai helmets, with super-low use, sitting on a shelf on my garage shelf. One is a Joey Dunlop collector helmet with maybe 10 miles. All are XL. Let me know. I'll let them go cheap. All are more than 5 years old but really, really in good shape otherwise.

Oh...one more thing. I had the same issue with my C3. Forehead imprint and bad headaches, especially in the hot sun for some reason. The secret to C3 for me was to buy a C3 Pro liner for it (Revzilla) and install. My headaches went away completely and I could ride all day in the thing. Still have it as a spare.

I've had my C5 for a bit over a year now. Fitted with a Cardo pactalk. ~35-45k miles on the helmet.
At first, it was incredible. Totally quite ( aside from wind noise due to cardo protruding ), didn't fog, visor is dark enough not to wear glasses. Even got used to closing the visor with two hands.
I'm on my second pinlock. There is a spot, right in front of my nose, where moisture builds. I've adjusted the face shield and still am facing the same issue.
I feel a faint wind coming from between the visor seal. I believe this is the issue. Extremely frustrating when riding in heavy rain or humidity.
My next helmet is most likely going to be a Neotech. However, I am expecting this C5 to last a couple more years.

Good to know - I did purchase a C5 though haven’t put many miles on it - as for the moisture spot, maybe an anti-fog spray that’s used on scuba masks & ski goggles will work…

I contacted Revzilla customer service ( where i purchased it from ). Their solution is for my to heat up the pinlock with a hair dryer and re-set it.
I have yet to give that a try but I will.
As for the anti-fog spray - I don't feel like this is something I should to be using. The seals should be sufficient enough. Otherwise, why go with such an expensive helmet?

I had to do this on my Arai shield. On a recent trip in the rain I was getting moisture between the shield and pin lock. On the previous cleaning I didn’t get it centered and sealed all the way so had to remove, dry off and reset it correctly.
Head shape is definitely critical for fit, Revzilla has a great filter to pick models for your shape. Being a long oval my options are limited, Arai Signet fits great but they won’t budge on offering drop down sun shields due to their theory it compromises safety.
I have the E2 which is basically the C5 with a removable peak visor. I generally have the peak visor removed unless off road. I love the helmet but just wish the chin strap was about 2 clicks longer to be a little looser. The Sena is great for me but I have not been able to figure out how to use completely and join Cardos. I mainly use it for music and phone calls. Schubert has great customer support and when I scratched the visor on the 1st day of use, they sent me a replacement. That also reminds me that the visor will not stay open at highway speeds so you have to add some little o rings on the visor hinges for the visor to stay open at speed. Schuberth claimed this is a safety design for the visor to close but I don't believe that. I ride a lot with the visor up and the inner shield down. Anyway 2 O rings is like 15¢. They have options for colors, tints etc for both main and inner visors.
I am still rocking the C3 Pro, but I was at the National Rally last week In Redmond and tried on the C5 and was impressed. It is a totally reworked helmet from the C3/C4. Comes with speakers and anteenna installed. I didn't like the electronics option being a Sena. I would have bought one if my Cardo would fit.
