I recently bought a 2009 R1200GS with about 30,xxx miles on it and was going to use it for the Trans-America Trail. Well in the meantime I picked up a almost flawless Honda XR650R(much lighter for this type of adventure) that I would rather take in the dirt then my R1200GS. So, my idea was to turn the R1200GS into strictly a street bike. Kinda strip it down, build it back up like new and SuperMoto the bike. While I love the way it performs I would like to get another 25 or so horse out of her. Is this even possible with the BMW ? I see NO PERFORMANCE MODS for this bike. I`d like to do the work myself but if I have to send it out I will. Can anyone help ? Thanks, AJ

25 horsepower is quite ambitious. A powerchip may help you on the way. Perhaps you could look at this:

There are almost no products made for these bikes that actually provide any noticeable horsepower improvements, the few programmers and such may smooth the engine out and improve the ride-a-bility a little but the exhausts and intake mods do virtually nothing except make noise.
Houdini is right about getting any real power, and even turbo's aren't very well suited for these engines since they're high compression at 12:1 for the hex heads and 12.5:1 for the LC, without either lowering the compression or building up the bottom end you'll have to go easy on the amount of boost.
In my opinion the term (and I hate this term) "It is what it is" applies to GS's.

Thanks guys. I kinda thought that was the case though I`m really surprised know one came up with a Hop Up kit for the bike. It`s so freaking popular ! I guess people are just happy with the way they are ? I know the bike is geared toward a more "mature" crowd but hell I`m 48 and still love to get sum when I twist the throttle ! I`m very new to this bike and for now it has all the power I need but I see myself outgrowing the 105 ponies fast. I`m a big guy, 6`2" and over 250 and the front end comes up through 1st and 2nd and I feel the tire skipping in 3rd, It`s got some torque ! I`ve been really looking at the S1000RR but only if I drop about 50-60 lbs. lol
They did come out with a hop-up kit so to speak.........it's called the 125hp liquid cooled model.
There are very few mods to increase power to the R-1200's, they come pretty much tuned to the maximum while still providing outstanding rideability.
You could do a lot to an old airhead, but the oilheads, hexhead and LC versions, not so much.
